Never mind the street running, what the heck is in that picture?

I'm seeing a PC GP-something pulling what looks like an excursion train with TWO hot steam locomotives and a long passenger string.  Maybe a George Hart operation with the 972??  I didn't think it was running that early in the PC years.

Is that the NC on North Pershing, or someplace else?    I've seen the old track charts for that, don't remember ever seeing two tracks.

Not a typical day on the PC.  Or anyplace else for that matter.   That's like debating the grass color under a field of grazing Unicorns.  Or my favorite, a shot of a California Zephyr dome crossing the Allegheny in Warren, and noting the bridge rust color.

OK, extreme thread drift... but, but....  ????

Haha. I'll indulge you.

That's a photo from my friend John Frantz (who lurks here). I believe it was taken by his dad of... when PC was taking Jack Showalter's stuff down to the Stewartstown in 1969. They ran em hot back then.

And yep, it was two tracks up through the 70s at least. I'm trying to figure out if it was singled down before or after Agnes, because that'd have a big impact on my future interpretations of York.

If it were me Ed, I'd fudge the timeline a bit and include both tracks...

To me that scene would be a model railroad knock-out and a highlight of your layout.  To have what appears to be a two-track main in a street running environment?  Wow!

We all make compromises on everything we do. (Well, except maybe for Max.)

Build it.
Even if it doesn't  go on your layout, build it.
I have a model of the Stone Ave. Station in La Grange. Ill., that will never appear anywhere on my layout. (which is set further west).
But I really enjoyed the time and effort spent building it and showing it, and I bet you would get similar satisfaction from your model.

Paul

It's not like you are building Union Station and trying to fit it into your layout. It's a speeder shed. If you build it, they will come...

Ugh. Just happened to me today. A friend sent me this photo of the area of my layout that has the street running.

Double-main street-running - sweet!  First time I've seen a prototype photo of this scenario.

Double track street running was all over Los Angeles on the PE....it wasn't out of the ordinary to have a 3 car train of streetcars pass a freight train.

This picture is on 6th St. in downtown...

I drew up a scale plan on 1/4″ square graph paper using Grandt Line #8008 windows. While they are not correct, they are not too far off. They are smaller than the 4×6 prototype windows, and they have more than the prototype 8 panes.

Wow, a great proto photo. So now you'll be able to make a really great copy with lots of detail on your upcoming new O scale layout of York!! Don't leave out that crummy trashed-out building ...so much great  detail!!
