Union Pacific Passenger F-3's coming

:|In browsing through the F-3 / F-7 listings at BLI to see what road names would be offered I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Union Pacific F-3's will be offered as passenger units (steam generator in B units') with 900 series numbers, not the 1400 series freight number's that we are usually use to seeing. KATO's Union Pacific F-3's all those years ago (first run) were also numbered as passenger locomotives, but KATO left the steam generator off their B units and I had to fabricate them and add them to be correct. All later KATO UP F-3's have had fright locomotive numbers. Very interesting. I jus may have to pick up a three unit set. Nate Goodman (Nato). Who might also be interested in Lowey Green NP passenger locos.  :|

I noticed the same thing and may get an AbB set as well. They were the original diesel power on the daily Utahn (Utahan?) into LA.
Anybody want to buy my original very low mileage DC Kato ABB set?

Otto, would you share with us the weathering technique you used on the chicken wire?- those are about as realistic in appearance as any I have seen.

And while a bit off topic- will BLI be making any of the ATSF F7 units WITHOUT the nose grabs?  The photos on their site show them, but in the recent video they put out to promote the new release, I did not see them (I need them without to be accurate to timeframe)

Tom, thank you for the compliment, glad you like them. Frankly.... I don't remember how I did it, that was like 30+ years ago. Ouch... :o
My guess is I masked them and used a black wash on a small brush followed immediately with tissue paper to lift it off the outer surfaces. At least that's what I'd do now.

As to the ATSF units, I'd like them too without all the additional grabs. It looks like the F3's will come without and the F7 with, but I'm just guessing here. It also looks like BLI is producing different variations by roadname? We'll know soon enough.

I have one of the original ATSF F3s- the ones where the As have incorrect steam generators and small numberboards.  I was thinking of selling it or replacing the shell, but it is a part of N scale history, and for that matter, my own history as a modeler.  So I still have it, still run it once in a while- my own personal #16, outshopped by Kato 30 years ago.  First of many.

If BLI does the ATSF F7s without the ladders and grabs, I will think about it.  At some point soon, I am going to have to make the commitment to DCC, and it might be the place to start.

Now that's cool , looking forward to getting further in the red for good reasons . Be nice if they did the UP GP-9B in loads of numbers .

The F-3 are the low fan version which I will have to check my books , but I think it is correct . Pow A , dummy B 200 ish . Another pow A 160 ish , and a Pow B 160 ish . all with sound 'cept the dummy that didn't go to school . Here is the N scale BLI line up http://www.hogtrainz.com/NBWLF3.htm

Yup 905-910 A units and 905B , 905C , 907B , 907C , 909B , AND 909C built as a group May to June 1948 pictures show some units and all shown are low fans . Diesels of the Union Pacific 1934-1982 The Classic Era Vol 1 pages 180-181 . They didn't get renumbered and regeared to freight till the mid 1953-1955 . A 7 year span of UP passenger power , too cool .

That's a good way to look at that particular model.  :)

Actually, the original UP passenger F-3's (1947 production) were delivered in ABB sets (964-968, renumbered 900-904 by April 1948) and they all had high fans, like the KATO model. By May and June 1948 additional six A's and six B's were delivered (units 905-910) and these had low fans as did later F-7's. So it would seem the BLI model is accurate for the later sets, which is not what I need, see below. So it looks like my ABB's are here to stay.

I knew about that earlier high fan group but didn't mention them as that is not the offering by BLI . BLI also knew I guess and chose a version never before done , and wisely so . This is a home run for 50's UP fans , pun purely coincidental .
