I'm looking for two N scale wide cabs to convert two Atlas GP-40-2's. I know about the Kalso cabs, but at $20.00 apiece I don't mine....It's the $20.00 shipping!!
Any help would be great!   Jim in Minnesota

I bought mine at Central Hobbies in Vancouver- he does mail order and they should not be too expensive to ship.

I tried the IM route. The cab is about 6-8 scale inches too wide for the GP40 carbody.

I am going to Central Hobbies today and can check availability for you.  Where do you need them shipped to?

They aren’t Big Dawg, that’s for sure. I thought they were Briggs. They are probably 20 years old. I go get them for you if I weren’t 1300 miles from there now. Call them and ask for Bruce. He’ll confirm for you.

I am determined to do one of these engines. This is one project that has resulted in nothing but failure for me. First was an Athcabasca Shops kit that just wouldn't fit the Atlas GP40-2 shell then the Intermountain SD40-2W cabs that just would not fit no matter what I did.

Frustrating.

These are some of my favorite engines.

The CMR/Big Dawg stuff kinda annoys me. The cab looks like it was cast from a Kaslo kit. As a resin caster myself, I think it's kinda a shitty thing to do to rip off other's work. But what really gets me... Go to all the trouble of a single rear headlight and wide cab but punt on the mesh grill work and rear brake wheel. I can understand not doing all the louvre work, but at least get the general phase of the model right!

Central Hobbies has three of the Kaslo Shops CN wide cabs in stock priced at $23.00 CAD each.  Hal ships from south of the border once a week so postage to you would be domestic US rate likely between $5.00-$10.00.
