TOFC request - 1960s/70s

We now have a nice variety of TOFC cars for the 40 ft trailer era, but there is still one type missing.  Other than the ancient Arnold/Rapido, and newer but no better Con-Cor, models, we still don't have one of the General American cars with the massive "rub rails" and thin side sills.  If anyone is considering tooling a new 89 ft TOFC flat, I'd like to ask that you consider one of these.

I have five of the CC cars that I will happily junk if someone makes a better model.  Besides being "clunky", the CC versions are too long, as they stretched them to hold 45 ft trailers with space left over.  The Arnold version is a little short, but at least looks right.

Thank you.

Traincat had a start to either the G85 or G89. Maybe that will still come to be at some point.  Between the F30, F39, all the 85' and 89' cars, hopefully we'll see some new entries onto the market.

I'd like to see these, is this the one your talking about? These would work for autoracks and tofc. It's the F87 class.

I think that he might mean the ones that are going to be released by Walthers in HO.  They basically have all the rub in the center.

Is this the one you are wanting?  I could use a few myself for my 1978 Santa Fe:

Transitionalman:  Thank you!  You posted while I was trying to find a prototype picture of one of these.  Yes, that is the car I'm asking for.  Unlike any of the TOFC cars currently available in N scale.

Unittrain:  No, those are basically "channel side" flats, and while they'd be nice, we have similar cars, including Athearn, Trainworx, and BLMA.  The side sills are higher than the deck, and center rub rails are small or nonexistent.

Micro-Trains and Atlas make the "flush deck" cars, with the side sills below the deck, again with or without small rub rails.

Looking for GTTX flatcars today gives an entirely different bunch of cars.  The 1960s GATC cars seem to have been gone by the mid 80s, and photos seem to be rare.

Here's an F89A we could definitely use these.

Not to hijack this into a more general TOFC and intermodal request thread, but if we're gonna get a low-deck flat, I'd love to see the one that goes with the Trainworx Stac-Pacs.   Looks similar, but not the same, as your posts.  Anybody know the classification?

I'd also love to see some of the the 80's oddball Trailer Train configurations, KTTX, WTTX, TTWX, etc.  Although those can be modeled from the present offerings.  (Some different hitch parts may be called for, but that could be a Shapeways project.)

And not that I wouldn't support Nicks request.  Here's a partial pic, not properly catalogued for the car in rrpicturearchives.

Found a full car pic with google:

(Also a great side by side of the 'four feathers' vs. 'five feathers' versions of that Santa Fe trailer scheme.)

The SP/SSW, ATSF and TTX had cars equipped for Stac Pac.  The TTX cars were Pullman PLH10 and PLH21 class flats.  The SP/SSW and ATSF cars were built by Pullman but had their own classes. I don't know off hand what PS class they would match.

Thanks for the info!  From the one photo I've seen the TTX cars match the SP cars in all noticable details.  I wasn't aware of the ATSF cars until now.

Jagged Ben:  Looks like we still need two styles, then, as I wasn't aware of the low-deck cars.  Maybe we can get Trainworx to do both, since they already have most of the trailers to go on them, AND the Stac-Pacs.
