I’m really liking the ATSF Landis-door model in the first-run and will be adding one to my Conrail-era roster. I like it when there is diversity in freight consists. The Conrail in the second release is also a future acquisition.

If you look at the Conrail cars in the link below, you will see that Matt Young has updated his information and the road numbers of the Conrail cars in the second release.  The Conrail cars are now good for anyone who models from 1980 up until the split and beyond.  A few  weeks ago I had posted in the Crew Lounge if anyone had an ORER from the late 80’s.  This is why I asked.  Matt’s cars are more accurate than the Athearn cars released in HO.  Only one road number released by Athearn was a car that existed.  The other two numbers did not exist.  I will be ordering all 8 road numbers to add to my Conrail fleet.  I hope that others will support the cause also.  Even the western guys need interchange traffic.  Thank you.

They claim that these cars were around in the late sixties but I haven't seen any that fit that time frame. My Era I model has a cutoff of 1967. Am I missing something here, do any fit my Era?

The Penn Central cars were built in 10/68.  That qualifies as late 60’s, but too late for you unfortunately.

So these are now starting to show up and I'm trying to decide which ones and how many I should get.

I just don't know RBLs enough to know how common / prevalent these were.

I feel like I've got a good RBL fleet growing and nowhere for them to go right now so I'm looking for good industries to serve with them too, if you have suggestions.

The two most common uses for these are food and beverage.  Canned food like soup and juice are typical commodities.  The Campbells soup plant in NJ used RBL’s like these.  Another common shipment was beer.  There were beer plants in NY (Miller) and NJ (AB) that shipped in these cars.  I have seen CR RBL’s delivered to the local Miller distributor back in the 90’s.  I have all 8 CR cars and they are sweet!  Show Matt Young at WOT some love already.

Haha, I'm definitely planning on getting at least one. The questions is really how many more than one considering I already have a PC and MP version from the previous run. I'm trying to avoid falling into the X71 trap (ie, I have a disproportionate number of a single class of car).

I am in that X71 trap.  I have 17 CR and 4 PC.  I have another 25 ACF 50’ PD cars.  Too much of one car type, but I like them since the ride height is perfect, and they are very easy to add body mounts to.  My railroad, my rules.

Beer RBLs operated in pools, and I've been told pools usually had similar types of car assigned- so a pool would have only 50', 10 foot door ~4500 cut ft cars assigned vs double 8 foot door ~5100 cut ft cars.

I'd guess east coast beer pools would have CR, Southern, or CSX family cars assigned if the brewery is on the east coast, but the pools for product coming from St. Louis might have been bigger.

Also, a grocery warehouse would be a good excuse for good number of these cars.
