The elusive Rails along the Chesapeake by John Hayman offers good information up until about 1980. If you can find it, get it!

A quick look at eBay shows a copy of the "Rails Along the Chesapeake" (about B&O's "Tom Thumb") plus some other books on the Chesapeake Division of PRR (on the Delmarva peninsula), including some ETTs.

Even when I have no intention of buying on eBay, I find it is a good place to conduct searches to see what is out there.

That's the one.  I'm a member of the various Facebook groups, and I just picked up the Morning Sun book on eBay last night for $26.

We'll have to schedule another outing and I'll bring a bag of 100 ton trucks for you.

Let me know, Tom. The railroad is busting with tank cars and boxcars these days. Covered hoppers can still be found, but in lesser quantities.

PS I wouldn't pay more than $50 for the Hayman book. I was lucky and got mine for $40 some time ago. It's great, but in desperate need of an update.

I got the Morning Sun book yesterday and thoroughly enjoy it so far. The late 1960's Pennsy photos are great.  @RockGp40 , what would you recommended seeing on a day trip?  I know that track is being pulled up quickly these days.

The first place to go would be Lewes, DE. Get the swing bridge before the state removes it. Also, follow that line west to Cool Springs. This is all DCLR trackage.

Photograph Cambridge specifically with all of it's history and work east towards Hurlock, Maryland.

If you want to make a real trip out of it, go to Cape Charles, Virginia and work north towards Pocomoke City. This is still active railroad, but it's infrequently used.

It bothers me that I never saw this bridge in action.  My in-laws live less than three-quarters of a mile from the bridge, but we're usually there on weekends . . . when the train wasn't running.
