DROOL!  Yes, I want that quality in an HOn3 ET&WNC ten wheeler.  Put in a good word for me the next time you talk to the folks at Blackstone.

For minute there I was wondering how the heck HOn3 was running on N scale track?!  Is the sound synchronized correctly?  It seems a little fast.

Plenty of opportunity to fine-tune that using CVs.

EDIT:  I watched again and see/hear four chuffs per revolution...am I missing something?

I am new to Phoenix and just yesterday started contemplating doing something in On30 outside but didn't know how well that it works outside.  I was thinking Arizona Central RR haha so love your idea.  Do you know how On30 can do outdoors (hot/dry)?  I might need to stick to cheap stuff and just see what happens.

Just to keep you un-tempted:

Sexy but if I'm going to stick with Colorado narrow gauge I have plenty of HOn3.  The appeal of On30 to me is actually to do a little freelancing.

But I had an idea today...  Once the Juniata Division has departed my train room I'll have an empty space there...what if I built a 3.5 x 7 vignette of the D&RGW Chili Line in HOn3?  Embudo on one side and scenic running on the other.  No operating goals or requirements, just a little railfan loop.  I expect to have some HOn3 turnouts leftover after I build the RGS.  Hopefully someday the Blackstone K-28 will become a reality...but the wait is beginning to feel eerily familiar (BLI N scale PRR M1?).

Seriously, you can do a lot in a small room with On30, I've found:

I made some headway this weekend on HO structures for the RGS, so I’m happy continuing down that line of work.  But just dealing with the size of HO structures relative to N makes me really wonder about even having room for a small On30 setup that doesn’t look like a caricature.  Your Tweetsie looks great but I’m not sure I could translate my vision into On30 as effectively.

Nah, the RGS in HOn3 is my thing and I’ll do it.  But who knows what will end up occupying the spare bedroom once the Juniata Division is gone.

I did make a move to ON30 some years ago and boy did it do my head in trying to move dimensions and clearances from N to ON30 after over 40+ years.
Anyway I got it half decent however after operating for 20 years in N the ON30 just didn't give me what I wanted and that being in a 18 x 12 foot shed.
Trust the new HOn3 will do it for me.

Glad to hear it - enjoying what you've done so far! Otherwise On30 could be a start of a slippery temptation slope to Gn3 (which you've already done) then before you know it you're building K-28's in 3-1/2" scale running on 7-1/2" track! :)

It was Blackstone that pulled me back to HOn3.  Those engines run so well...better than many diesels I've operated.  Ops are no fun if you have stalls, sound drop-outs, and no slow-speed performance.  The Blackstone engines on DCC literally do crawl from tie to tie if you let them.  Without Blackstone we'd still have to choose between major surgery on the old worn-out MDC kits (and frankly no matter how you remotor and regear them, they're not Blackstone) or brass, which is a hit-or-miss performance-wise.  If I were modeling some other narrow gauge besides the Rio Grande I probably would be looking to Sn3 or On3/30.

What kind of Sn3 sources are there?  I have been poking around and not finding much.

PBL.  Again it’s focused on Rio Grande but they do some other stuff too.  And there are a few companies that do structures in S.

Thanks, I need to look at that.  Looking for a harbor to anchor my modeling in  :D.

Dabbled in Sn3 for a while and had a website about converting HO locos to Sn3.

Was told Sn3 is PBL and that my ideas weren't warranted, Colorado or die.

Here is the opening page, the links don't work.

Nice size, basically HO. Lots of HO buildings can be fudged to S scale.
