Got my TK-G kit in last night.

Arrived without issues or problems.   I was amused that it was shipped in a 'combat hardened' mailer with little pieces of Masonite on the edges to reinforce it.  But it arrived just fine.   I feel like I've met my Netherlands Doppleganger for kits.

The quality of the shapeways print and the resin parts is just outstanding.    Looking forward to assembling it.   Those are such a distinctive car with the oddball side walkways and indented frame.   I'm modeling '72 and I'll do mine as a work train water car, likely in silver paint, but I'm finding photos of these up through the 80's.   I like to weather stuff, and this sure looks like those were beat like a rented mule by the 70's.

Randy, I am glad you got your tank car kit and are happy with the quality of the castings. Thats a good thing. They are such distinctive and unique cars, a must for us Santa Fe guys! I wouldn't mind seeing some progress pics as you build it, as I have a rather sizeable order, including a couple of tank cars, on the way.

I've been searching the internet for photos of these in their later years.   In MOW service it seems like they were just raw meat; every crew modified them for specific uses.   One was even cut up and made into a coal hopper on one end and water on the other as a boom tender.  Another had top-mounted water pump.  Another was split for diesel fuel and water as a crane tender, and had a second end dome.    That's preserved at Shawnee, OK

That looks like what I'm going to model:  http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM9Q0P_ATSF_189512_BB_153_tank_car_Shawnee_OK

It's weathered, but not to the point you can't tell it was painted silver.

Thanks Randy for the positive comment.  In addition to your websearch for ATSF MOW pictures: the Santa Fe Historical Society has a digital reprint available of the very useful book Vol. 1.  Work Equipment by W.W. Childers. Happy Santa Fe N scale railroading, Dirk

It's Christmas in March! :D
The package from Dirk arrived from Holland to SoCal in ten days, and I just just retrieved it at the post office.
At first glance, it all looks terrific, and the tender shells are exquisite. I need to spend a little time examining all this wonderful ATSF-specific "stuff" to decide which ones to do first...so many choices...
Another excuse to not work on the layout
Thank you Dirk!

ATSF and SP/SSW N scalers,

Upon several requests I have added a RSD-15 SP/SSW version (see my website WWW.ATSFNSCALEMODELS.COM and Shapeways shop).
Different lights (low nose, above windshield and rear end) and a different big grill on the rear sides.
Check pictures for number specific lights. Building instructions are the same as for the ATSF versions.

Also added some video's on Youtube of my ATSF RSD-15's and 2 ATSF steamers (2-6-0 and 2-8-0)

Hey Bryan,

I don't see the problem with the video links.
I think they are GREAT!

(they are links to MY videos lol    )

Curious how that happened.

The links take me to my own videos on You Tube. Does not ask me to sign in. The vids that Mark posted worked fine. Some very nice looking locos and cars.
