Call to action: Louisiana & Arkansas 4-6-0 #503

I may be behind the powercurve here on this one, but I just found out about this. The City of Port Authur Tx is planning on scrapping Louisiana & Arkansas 4-6-0 #503 within the next few days. From what I understand this locomotive is pretty serviceable, The boiler is said to be in pretty good shape overall, and it's suppose to be fairly complete.

Anyways, There is a Gofundme set up to try to quickly raise enough funds to purchase, remove and move this locomotive. Any amount helps.

As of about 4 hours ago the post on the Louisiana Model Railroad and Railfan Yahoo group indicated the scrap
Company retained by the city is entertaining offers for recovery/resale. I’ll try to get the posts copied tomorrow for all to see.

Apparently one of my friends is part of the group trying to buy it. He just posted a photo of his head sticking out of the firebox!

He even shows up in the video:

We have a mutual Friend then. Nick was the one who brought this to my attention.

Seems like Nick has had his hands on most of the steamers under restorations these days!
I spend a good chunk of my afternoon posting, and messaging pretty much all of the railroad groups and historic groups I am part of on Facebook. I also shot a message to @rapidotrains , With Jason being the historian, and the preservationist he is, I thought he might be interested in throwing a few dollars at it, even though it's not a Canadian locomotive. I also sent a message to @AtlasModelRailroadCompany , I figured it couldn't hurt,a dn who knows, they might be able to use the locomotive in the future for reference, and maybe even make a model of it.  @Shipsure , you think MT or yourself could throw a a small donation at this also? I don't mean to throw you guys under the bus, but hey, Desperate times right? lol
I messaged so much, that Facebook though I was spamming, and stopped me from sending any more messages to groups, and liked pages. I'm hoping all the efforts that everyone is making is enough to save this old girl.
I Just checked the Gofundme, Things are looking good. over $10K now. Not sure how much they need realistically, but it's looking better.

The reporting is there are now competing funding campaigns going, and the scrapper the city has hired is pretty much set to sell the Loco. Apparently it never occurred to the city to see if they could get Hurricane Harvey recivery funds to restore the switcher.

They have been doing 10k a day and they have 5 days. I wonder if it will fizzle out toward the end? Hope they make.

They are at just shy of $44k now. I'm hoping this is enough. I know that Nick and Jason were estimating Worst case scenario with the $50K. With the trucking being donated, that takes a chunk of money out of the cost.

Seems like the city could have saved the 25K they spent to scrap it. Could have gave it away for free.

They also apparently could have gotten FEMA money to preserve and abate but didn't ask and so missed the deadline.

$51.3K, but now the goal is $65k?  Do they get to keep $50k if they don't reach $65k?  I have no idea how fund me works.
