Bryan, I like the finish, but the brickwork itself is excellent. What is is?

Otto, I designed it and printed it through Shapeways.  The pattern is based on the 18 century style brick arrangement used for NH Union Station.

This weekend brought fitting the subroadbed on the lower level of Newbridge & Lockport RR

I ran out of time, so the peninsula blob is unfinished. Also, I might be short couple of feet of plywood. :(

Fabricated a hinged LED lighting canopy out of some cheap artists canvasses and 2 rolls of LED strip lights, all from the local Bunnings Warehouse (our version of Home Depot).   I wish these LED lights had been available for some of my previous layouts.  They are cheap ($50 for a 15ft roll), easy to install (self-adhesive backing), bright and they do not generate any heat.

Very nifty idea. I might just pinch it for my upcoming HOn3 layout.

Do you know if the dynamic brake grid remained on top of the long hood on these?

Don't you mean on top of the short hood?  No RS3s had DBs as built applied to the long hood though MK moved them on the rebuilt RS3s they did for the D&H.  Right now I am not sure what pictures there are of the high-hood RS3s on RRPA... the site has been down most of the day and is still not back up...

I've settled deco-wise on a variation of the RMC web post this month on decorating/weathering brick structures.

That is a nice job. Do you have a link to the web post.

Best wishes,
Dave

So, I've been toying around with Z-scale a bit. You know... because N is just so huge and all...  ;)  I've also been hanging out on some UK-based model railroading websites / FB groups. That might explain why I've been tinkering with a Z-scale Inglenook "switching puzzle" this weekend. This is actually pretty fun...

Chris333:  Then the model, at the same density, would weigh about 2.25 oz, still not very heavy.

You're familiar with a joke, right?

Don't you mean on top of the short hood?  No RS3s had DBs as built applied to the long hood

What are the two oblong grilles side-by-side  on the long hood on the top of the Atlas/Kato and Atlas Chinese models, then?  They also appear on the Skytop shell.  The photographs of models of the WM Hammerhead conflict.  Some have those two oblong grilles, some do not.

I did take a peak at the Penn/LV hammerhead, but could not find a shot of the top of that one, either.  The Penn/LV is an earlier phase in that it has louvers on the doors, but does have the handrail arrangement of the later phases.  Curiously, the P&LE's RS-3s (which were freight units) had the handrail and stanchions of the later phases, but had the louvers on the doors of the earlier phases.  The P&LE's RS-3s came after the WM's.

The WM's came mostly in May, 1953, although #197 did not show up until September, 1954,
The P&LE's five, NYCS DRS-6j, came in October, 1953.  They had the louvers of the earlier phases but the handrail/stanchions of the later.
The Penn/LV came in December, 1953.  It had the louvers of the earlier phases but the handrail/stanchions of the later.

If nothing goes wrong with the first two that I do  in WM, perhaps I can do the Penn unit with a stock Atlas RS-3 long hood and the PiperguyUMD short.  I do have the decals for the Penn.

Ed:  Yes, I am familiar with jokes.  I even make one occasionally.  I'm also familiar with a lot of people who don't understand the relationship between "scale", 1-D size, and "volume/mass/density", in 3-D.  From past experience, in work and life, if I don't KNOW they're a joke, I tend to take things literally.

Here you go. I had to use paint for the mortar because the brick separations are so fine, but the rest of the technique worked for me. It definitely will work as described on DPM brickwork.

Ventilation for the mechanical and electrical systems.  Having the openings were problematic so most roads eventually covered them over (you really do not want rain and melting snow or ice dripping on such equipment.

Late entry this weekend as I was occupied running trains on the Free-moNebraska layout!  Here's video of some Boeing Fuselages heading West.

Nice work to all.  I've accomplished several tasks over the last 5-7 days, including addition of pressure-sensitive vinyl buildings applied to my backdrop and a 25' tall concrete retaining wall running along the backdrop.  I began work on my Butler Yard railroad overpass yesterday.  Still much work to do on it including gap filling, sanding, priming and painting, but really changes the dynamic of this layout with the vertical element.  I made this from 3mm, 6mm and 12mm thick sheet pvc, as well as 7mm styrene tube.  Beats buying the nice looking Rix stuff for the same affect in my opinion.

A view through the trees and underbrush leading to the tracks behind, the light in the background mimics the sun pretty good 8)
