"TBOX" 60' High Cube Plate F Boxcar - Walthers

Just noticed this announcement by Walthers in HO.
Maybe it's time for requests for them to do it in N scale? Or is there another manufacturer working on these for us?

"Hi Model Railroaders!
With the announcement of our new WalthersMainline 60' High-Cube Plate F Boxcars last week, we thought it would be fun to share some of what goes into a project like this.
During our research, we found TTX has two similar classes of these big boxcars, however, earlier examples have a very different roof style. Later cars built from 2011 to 2013 use both “X” and diagonal panels for added strength, and because of this key difference, they’re designated as class XGH61. Now roofs are pretty visible on model freight cars, but they’re often hard to see on the prototypes, so we’re pleased to share these builder’s photos showcasing this major spotting feature of the prototypes — and our upcoming models!

I commented on their FB post.  " Please do these in N scale "

I would guess IMRC has the LBF molds ?  They are releasing the 50' cars, supposedly next month as they did not push them back this week when they updated the current reservations page.  Of course, they can push them back next month.

Except for the part about the chunky molded-on ladders...  :o

Maybe we can send some feedback to them so they know there are many  :ashat: who want them? I haven't purchased multiples of freight cars in the last few years but whoever produces a good TBOX will get me to order multiples.

Walthers? Do N scale? Hahahahahahaha....
Now seeking Pacific NW N scalers to create a Modutrak-style modular club featuring NP's shared mainline between Seattle and Portland. PM me if interested.

Walthers is pretty much finished with N scale freight cars according to them. Loco's are still there but don't expect any new tooling. Structures, they do better with those and we get a couple a few new ones a year and that's what I wish they keep doing.

I don't remember if LBF did the 60' TBOX cars though.

A TBOX model has been on my top-5 freight car wish list for a long time.  It would be great to have the old E&C/LBF/Huberts models available again, maybe with a re-tooled roof, and definitely with better paint.  They produced two variants, a Gunderson model and an NSC model.   The main spotting difference between them is that the NSC car has flared ribs alongside the doors.

Both of the LBF models have only vertical ribs, while there are many TBOX variants that have both vertical and horizontal ribs, similar to those on ExactRail's FBOX model.  I would love to see ExactRail produce a TBOX cousin to their FBOX, but if @Shipsure were to go ahead with an MTL model and offer it as a runner pack, I'd be equally happy.  I could point you to many examples of proto photos, if there is interest.  :)

OK, Sundowner I looked. The LBF's were NSC's. I don;t think anybody has done the Gunderson in N either as a 7550 or 7880. I'm pretty sure they had both, but not sure of what other schemes. That would be a good car, be neat if they would have some untouched and some already tagged since it doesn't take long.

Possibly one of the single most common boxcars!

And the tooling exists!

Arrrrghhhhh!

ps.  the LBF tooling was aluminum and was the TBOX damaged or something?????

I've heard a couple of people tell me it was aluminum tooling. I wonder if IM got all the tooling. I would have thought they would jump on that car. Like you said they are everywhere.

Even if they did jump all over it, it would still take 4-7 years for them to hit the streets. It is IMRC we are talking about....
