Probably somewhere near Hunt Valley or adjacent to the Timonium Race Track (Fair Grounds). That track has been in use since the late 1800s and not that much further from Sagamore Farms as Reisterstown and the WM.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

The horse in the foreground is "Heelfly" led by trainer J.H. Bud Stotler.  The photo is not dated, but I believe that this is around 1938.  These horses were probably the most valuable passengers carried by the railroads.

This photo was apparently the maiden voyage for "Del Mar Turf Club", complete with Futura lettering of the Fleet of Modernism years.  Also note the boards in place to prevent horses legs from getting caught in the gap.
On page 64 of the January 1936 issue of the Baltimore and Ohio Magazine (for employees) there is a photo of horses from Sagamore Farms being loaded in Baltimore onto two Santa Fe horse cars for the trip to Santa Anita.

The book Native Dancer by John Eisenberg mentions that, in November 1952, the horses were loaded onto the train at Baltimore following a trip from the farm that took hours. The routing was B&O Capitol Limited to Chicago and then Santa Fe Chief to California. Three horse cars transported 28 horses and Vanderbilt's private car brought up the rear.

Doubtful. The horse looks racing fit so it would not be coming off a farm but from a race track, a miler. Timonium is was a fair circuit, nothing would go to the west coast from a half miler. Other tracks in MD would be BelAir, Hagerstown or Marlboro but they were also half milers.

Doug, any reason why you think this was taken in MD?

Kind regards,
Bill

Doubtful? Hunt Valley is a stone's throw from Sagamore Farm (and just up the street from Timonium) and in the heart of Maryland horse country. Whether the horse raced at Timonium or not, why wouldn't it use its loading facility all the same; or if the farm was owned by such a renowned figure, why wouldn't he have built his own personal loading track near the farm? And BTW, Hagerstown, Timonium and Marlboro were all part of the fair circuit; mile tracks in Maryland were Bowie and Pimlico (actually 1 3/16); there was also Fairgo (1/2 m in Cumberland) and one in Harve de Grace before WWII (not sure what happened to it after); and Bel Air is actually 3/4 m, not 1/2 m. And Maryland also had harness racing at Rosecroft (Ft. Washington), Laurel, Ocean Downs (Berlin), and Georgetown (okay, it's in DE, but that's practically MD).  Not to mention that the track at the Sagamore Farm, if it is the same track that existed then, is a half-miler, so I propose that a "racing fit" horse that can run on mile West Coast tracks can be trained on a 1/2 m track. You'd be surprised what Maryland can produce in such a small space, me for instance.

That is what the caption said, which apparently came from a press release.

Any chance you could post that photo?

Thanks.  Same breeder, same trainer (Bud Stottler), similar local, but different loading site.  This was obviously a B&O shipping site, where the other photo is probably a PRR Northern Central site.  In each photo the boss trainer is in charge.  As I said, these were likely some of the most valuable items, passenger or freight, that traveled on the railroads.  These horses traveled on the Capitol Limited, not some secondary passenger train.  B&O did have their own horse cars, but this shows that Railway Express used cars all across the country, so it would not have been unusual to see Santa Fe cars in the east, and PRR, NYC, and B&O horse cars in the south and west.

Ive been working on my city of Los Angeles motive power. I took the original "union Pacific" and numbers applied at the factory in favor of the proper city of la decals. Everything was removed with microsol/sanding.

I seriously need a second B-unit but can't find one ANYWHERE! if you have a life-like e3/6 or e7 B-unit in Union Pacific livery that you like to sell, let me know please. I dont mind if it's powered or a dummy unit.

Thanks ghengis. Although packaged as E6 a/b sets, the b unit is missing a window on each side masking it an  E7. Ill live without it.
Luckily George @nickelplate759 cane through sand sold me another b unit. Now ill have a proper COLA lashup.

I got all the stiffeners on the multi depth deck plate, next is to make the last abutment that will go to the far right. Then finish adding rivets then paint and weather the bridges and abutments. I got a box of super trees so will be working on those eventually, once I create the swamp in the foreground and add static grass and underbrush everywhere. Finally got all the track and wiring done. More next week.
