A one off grab shot, New Jersey Transit GP7 #5681 is stabled at Newark Penn station, NJ with what is a most likely a Raritan Valley line service in July 1981.
5681 is former Central of New Jersey #1523 and the clerestory coaches are also former CNJ. Jersey Central GP7's (#1520 - 1530) were dual service locomotives regularly found in commuter train service.

Same spot, maybe same train 36 years later.

Thanks for posting that - there was some method in my madness  :)

Apart from the loco and rolling stock it hasn't really changed much.

That may also be a Raritan Valley train.  Is that line still diesel powered?  The train just arrived in Newark Penn from NY Penn.  A few seconds later, the pantograph was lowered and the prime movers fired up and off it went under diesel power.
