Idea for the SBD/CSX guys

I bought one of the new Bachmann GP40s from my LHS.  The motor is mounted low enough in the frame that it can be cut at nose level for the entire length of the mechanism.  I was thinking that this would allow a powered GE road MATE to be built (relatively) easily.  The hood width is slightly less than an Atlas B23-7 so you could use Atlas parts and match whatever U-boat you decide to pair it with.
The fabric of reality has begun to fray.

Something to keep in mind if they re-release the U36B....

If I remember correctly, the GP truck centers is 2 feet shorter than the U-boat.

Good point, Bachmann is just the type of company that would make a new U36B shell just to put it on an existing GP40 chassis....

GE DIESEL TRUCK DATA
Truck centers are the dimension from center to center of truck bolster, not the jacking pads.
This data is for units as delivered from the manufacturers.
Always refer to pictures of the unit to be modeled as many trucks are interchangeable.
The trucks were sometimes swapped by the Railroads or rebuilders.

7: U50 used a pair of AAR "B" trucks mounted on a span bolster front and rear. truck centers are span bolster to span bolster.
8: U50c used the trade-in 6 axle trucks from their gas turbines.
9: Most "U" boats used AAR "B" trucks and option was the FB2(Floating Bolster 2 axle)whb of 9'-00".
AAR type "B" trucks used on road units have a whb of 9'-04" with GE traction motors and 9'-10" with Westinghouse motors.
FB3(Floating Bolster 3 axle)is a GE version similar in appearance to the EMD "flexicoil", two versions were used, the "Adirondack" and the GSC version both have a whb of 13'-07".

Of course we don't know what the measure is on a Bachmann model.
If a GP40 is over scale, then that would be better!
