Looking for info on various types of grabs

I can only assume there are standard widths of small hand grabs on diesel cabs, roofs, passenger car roofs, etc.

What would those widths be?

Straight grabs and drop grabs, or any types of grabs, asking for a friend...  :D :D  :D :D

What are the style called that look like a wide "W":

Thanks in advance!

These W things are actually not grabs at all  - they are ladder rests.  Usually 24" wide, at least on a passenger car, in which case they are often next to a 24" straight grab.

Common widths of grabs on diesels and freight cars are 18" and 15", but others are possible.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

@nickelplate759 , Thanks!  Are the ladder rests for hooks on the ladder, or does the ladder rest in the "recessed" area and the sides prevent the ladder from sliding left or right?  Just trying to understand how they work.

LOL!  I thought it was some sort of brand name like "Talgo" or 'Elesco".

I believe the ladder sides (is there a name for them?) rest in the depressions, to keep it from sliding.  That way the length of the ladder wouldn't matter, as it would if hooks on the end had to match the height of the ladder rest.  A ladder with hooks wouldn't need a fancy rest, as it could be hooked to any grab, or a handrail, for that matter.

Thank you.  I thought there was a name, but don't remember ever hearing anyone use it.
