MTL December releases

The MTL December releases are up. I'm liking the B&O 4427, been wanting some B&O and C&O covered hoppers in the pre Chessie schemes. The Cotton Belt and SP boxcars are cool too.

:sigh of relief:

Nothing for me this month. Which is sort of good, as I blew the budget big-time with Cyber Monday buys.

Same here on the "nothing for me this month" point.  I have too much stuff in the pipeline now I have to find a way to pay for

They assume you are saving up for this:

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

I see the stenciling for the baggage car in the B&O heavyweight 5-pack follows B&O standard practice. I wonder if MTL will release it as a single car?

Be nice if MTL showed both weathered and unweathered examples of the 16-unit PFE cars. I see they have "heavily weathered" PFEs listed this month in Z offerings, but I hope that's not what the N ones will look like.

Nah, I have too many of those already, nothing new. PE had a lot more variety in reefers, and running reefer blocks with one class of car is kind of antiseptic...

Guys, *this* is what I said, it's not hat complicated :D
PFE had close to 39,000 ice reefers in 1950, of several major classes and a number of smaller ones. Running solid reefer blocks of identical cars is just not prototypical in that era, thats why couldn't get excited because I already have enough of thoseIt's kind of like getting on the freeway and seeing nothing but Toyota Camry's; yes there are a lot of them, but....well I hope I made my point. I would like to see some other PFE classes of the transition era, but realize the chances are slim

@Cajonpassfan

Running a transition Cajon layout, but concerned about long antiseptic cuts of PFE reefers?  Otto, you might as well be concerned you have too many ties on your track ...   ;)

If you wish some variety in prototypical string of R-30-21, toss in an odd heavily weathered faded Armour Yellow R-30-13 (perhaps condemned) with the vertical brake staff (Atlas makes the best versions of the latter), and a handful (5 to 10%) of Western Pacific heralded PFE cars.   Small variations are what make such a cut so attractive and a reward to the observant.

I like the 3 50' boxcars: The Reading, SP and Cotton Belt cars.

Those are the new "right proportion, right height" cars, right?

They are the updated cars, they still have issues with ride height and proportions tho...

So what does this mean? New shells but shells that are still wrong?

Or are they cases of just needing new underframes?

It still the same basic body as always, just with the running boards removed, new short ladders and a walkway over the coupler (I think those are all the new things).
