Just wondering... these new pilots have a larger opening and a pin hole to hold the coupler, correct? Wouldn't this make for a simple MTL installation? I know you are focused on the goofy coupler, but I think you're missing the pilots through the couplers.

I hadn't thought about that.  I just took another look at the part, and "simple" is probably a bit of an overstatement.  Off hand, I'd say you'd have to cut the included pin and coupler off, along with the wire and block that centers it.  However, once you do that, you'd actually left with a nice large flat area that you might be able to glue an MT to.  Given that these are spare parts that I have no intention of using, it might be worth trying!

Sounds like there might be a slight misunderstanding here.  That boxing glove and the bit it's attached to is a replacement part included with the loco.  Out of the box, this new run of M1s has the same scale dummy coupler that doesn't mate up with anything, just like the original run.  The Keystone Details replacement coupler will still work just fine.

Let me get this straight: BLI included 2 front couplers with that model and neither one is compatible with any of the other N scale knuckle couplers?!  :RUEffinKiddingMe:

Bingo!

The replacement boxing glove will mate with the tender coupler, but it’s not an entirely consensual affair. They have to be manhandled together, and the jaw won’t close, but they will stay connected.

Well, I actually find this situation funny!  Maybe because I have no stake in this game. Still, it is amusing to witness all the faux-pas manufacturers keep on making. Even in this age of instant communications and computer aided design someone still ends up messing up badly.

Wait, what?  Did @daniel_leavitt2000 just call my design "goofy"??  LOL  :D :D :D

It may be goofy mister, but it works!  One of my best-sellers! Eric and I Got BLW tooling up a unique part to combat my design!  HoHoHo.

@eric220 you will have to mount one of these pilots to see if the resulting coupler height would be correct if you mounted an MT coupler underneath.

I'm pretty sure Daniel meant the goofy new BLI replacement coupler, not your fine product (of which I have many).

Correct. I don't know how one wouldn't describe that BLI coupler as goofy.

But the new pilot looks like it will take an MTL coupler easily.

You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

What you don't know is that ham handed boxing glove is hiding a parachute . So if you want to test it just just let it run off the table at a scale 30 MPH or more while holding the whistle down .

The idea of replacing the non-operating coupler with an MT has already been brought up.
But wouldn't it be even easier, and more in scale, to use MT Z scale couplers on the front and rear of this engine?
They will fit easier, they mate with each other for double-heading, and they still work with
MT N Scale couplers.
