A new, never before in N scale, container model has been released at Trainfest 2017. The 40’ Canvas/open top container model is from the JACKSONVILLE TERMINAL COMPANY, and features ‘IBC’ connecting pins, and a magnetic connection. Sides are the ‘rib-style’ corrugation, and five different door types will be available to match prototypes. The simulated canvas top has support bar indentions, and prototypical corner wraps. Available in Five schemes the models are now in stock, and on display at Trainfest 2017. First release Schemes are HAPAG-LlOYD, MAERSK, CANADA MARITIME, CHO YANG, AND TRANSAMERICA.

This is a very welcome addition to the N scale intermodal scene Steven and I hope it's very successful introduction for JTC. The removable canvas tops and the magnetic connections are great inclusions.

Along with the Trainworx VTTX container flats, I never thought we'd see open top containers in N, so it's a great time to be an intermodal modeler.
I've got some Hay Bros tire loads that are going to be perfect for these as some COFC loads.

I'm also looking forward to see what else JTC has in development  :D

Very nice!  A few of us were train watching a few weeks ago and as one of the evening intermodals was passing by the comment was made, "We need those open top containers in N scale."  And you have delivered.  Thanks!.  Looking forward to see what else you have in development.

Great to see, Steven.  The door detail looks especially nice.  I'll be looking out for these.

Detail on them was nice,(they were at Trainfest, and Spring Creek was selling them) but at $30 for two containers,  I was a little stunned (no $ in the packages or box). The attention to detail is incredible, something like 9 different door styles, and HEAVY!

So what's the earliest year these were in service?

"Open Top Container Uses;
There are many uses for open top containers.  If you think of any heavy equipment that needs to be transported overseas which requires specialized knowledge to move, it may make more sense to have it transported in an open top container.  The open top container can be loaded and moved around the vessel and port just as a normal container, while not requiring the trained driver to be present to move it.  Other items which are typically carried in an open top container are spools of cable or wire, or similar items that need to be moved around by a crane.  A crane isn't able to load inside of a standard container, so an open top makes the most sense.
Other items may be:
Glass, marble or steel sheets,
Off height, large machinery.
Long steel bars or raw materials that can't be easily moved by a fork lift.
Long pipes.
Spooled items, such as wire and cable.
Coal, ore, or similar minerals that need to be loaded by a tippler." -
