Something caught my eye on my skytop car.... so I disassembled it.
As seen in the photo above, there is a slit in the black underframe. You can see it just to the left of the weight.
My first thought was.... you could put a switch in there. I wonder if Kato is planning on added electronics to these in the future.
The shot below shows that there is ONE lightpipe and one LED. That surprised me a bit. Very well designed.
Here's a close up of the board. Looks like they could have added two LEDs if they wanted.
So looking at this shot again, I surmise a couple of things.
1. They could add a board that goes all the way back to that slit if they wanted. Not sure what a micro switch might control.
2. A couple of folks have thought about adding micro LEDs. I think it is do-able.
You could cut the light pipe just to the left of the "lamps" that stick up. This would be just to the right of where it makes that funky split.
Then add two LEDs. One is red for forward. The other is white for reverse (based on what Milw fans have said.).
Then rewire the board or add a decoder. The red LED would be on the white wire (forward) and programmed for a gyralight effect.
The white LED would be on the yellow wire.
Also, the lens in the shell on the tail light is red. You would need to replace that with one that is clear. That way it could show white or red depending on which LED lights it.
