I already have too many distractions (and too many computing devices around me). I have a flip-phone for emergencies.   I don't want or need a smart phone.  I can live without the need to be always reachable, or needing to be in constant contact with the entire world.

I don't leave my phone on , except when Kathy is not under my foot .

I ONLY deal with family as far as phone and texts .

I do have my eMails forwarded to my Iphone so I can see and delete them all .

What I want it for is to post the Weekend Update if I am not at home ...... fat chance of that though .

What has really helped me is Solitaire . Kath never goes in a store for less than 1/2 an hour . Having something to do other than wondering why the whole parking lot has ALL new cars in it while she just went in for a quick pick helps my heart .

None of what you mentioned is really applicable in my life. I don't have a need for a smart phone. I don't even play solitaire. I can even go entire day without doing anything on the Internet.  I can eve go entire week without it!.  I like shopping and even just browsing the stores I frequent myself or with my GF. 

But just to give you a more complete picture, I work as a level-3 tech support engineer (supporting iSCSI and NAS storage) for a large computer company, and I'm quite at home with all sorts  of modern computing devices.  In the past I worked at Sun Microsystems as a Solaris (Unix) support engineer, and earlier I was a computer hardware repair tech doing component-level troubleshooting.

BTW, we just created an excellent tread drift here.

I always did like the apps. that can recognize a song and tell you what it is and who sings/sang it, even if you whistle the tune. That's cool.

Why, Peteski, we have so much in common. I too come from a tech background (12 years writing software for a major pharma, amongst many other technojobs), and yet I do not--and will never--own a smart phone. I had one for a week and returned it. Kind of like how I am with DCC, but I'll save that for a different thread drift topic...

I think there are many computer professionals here - but our choice to go without smart phones does nto fit the mainstream (not that I ever fit the mainstream). 
I however have embraced DCC. And I have to make a confession: When few years ago there was s very good sale on pre-paid basic smart-phones I bought one for about $20 (Kyocera Event) simply to use as a WiFi throttle. I have never activated it, or set up my email on it (while on WiFi). Just loaded the throttle app.

I have a smart phone ...... it looks really good ...... lots of little pictures that confuse me ........ I 'm not very smart so all that stuff is wasted but it still rings and people talk to me on it and they can hear me when I talk back ......... it has a camera, not a bad one either which comes in handy when I bump into cars or they bump into me.

I didn't know you had a Postage Train Site but I found it and it's book marked. I love them too. Aurora was very innovative in their packaging. It's a shame they disappeared so quickly, even if they were basically the same as Minitrix.

Well, OK, as long as you didn't activate it, you can stay in the club.

And, I have to admit to not being totally disinterested in DCC. In fact, back years ago when I was aware of the original Astrac system, I thought, "I can hardly wait to have a system where each loco only responds to its own throttle."

However, I discovered that I actually like controlling the track with block switches.

I don't think it's a derail, I think it's meant to lift the wheel/flange over the rail.

I suspect you are correct, Jason.  If I'm looking at the track plan correctly, the photog was standing on what at that time as but a stub used for storage of hand carts and light speeders.  The straightway to the left was the lead to the two bay engine house.  This plate was a temporarily placed item.
