Yup.

This is to confirm that the N&W HC71 and HC71A classes were built at Roanoke using PS kits. N&W's had hatches with zig zag ribs.

NW 177001-177999 - HC71, Roanoke Blt PS Kits, Blt - 73/74
NW 178000-178500 - HC71, Roanoke Blt PS Kits, Blt - 79/80
NW 185000-185074 - HC71A, Roanoke Blt PS Kits, Blt - 1973 (HC71A has additional Round Loading Hatches built into trough hatches, dischg gates have extra bracing)
NW 178501-179000 - HC78, Roanoke Blt copies 4750, Blt - 1980 (these have "arched" roofs)

Pullman did not supply kits.  They supplied the roof components (except for the side plate angle, roofwalks, roofwalk supports), and other than the outlet gates, hatches, etc, the rest of the car was fabricated by Roanoke Shops.  Not all roof hatches had 'zig-zags'... the cars equipped with General covers were either ribbed (177001-178000) or smooth (178001-178500).  Rockwell (177001-178000) and Landreth (178001-178500) covers had the patterns.

Interesting that all the BNSF cars are spacers for hazardous materials trains.

Disappointing on the lower brace on the 4740 ends. Hopefully these can be easily removed without adversely affecting these cars (thinking ahead to possible N&W releases - I have all of the RC N&W releases of the 4740 body).

I picked up a 4700 and a 4740 last weekend at Central Hobbies.  Both had issues with loose roof walk glue joints, but overall they are very well done, and a big improvement on the RC edition.  I'm really looking forward to the 2-bay hoppers.  I hope Matt will do some Plain Jane leaser schemes with that model.

There is a non-buffer BNSF version in the queue.  I expect those will be out shortly.

The Burlington Northern and Chessie 4740s are on MBK now. I really like these covered hoppers they fill a much needed void in the covered hopper fleet. Hope they do the EL ones.

Here's the Trainworx 620 part that was designed for the Ortner RD hopper that I've also used on the FMC 4700, Greenville 3000, and the original Richmond Tank Car 4750:

Assuming the FVM adapters are derived from the Trainworx 620, keep in mind that it would need to be removed and modified to look like the JnJ part in order to be more accurate for a PS 4740 or 4750...or anything built by N&W that is nearly identical to a PS 4750
