With regards to the bottom pic, is that the main track running under/thru the loader? I have some areas on my layout where I could add an industry but don't have quite enough room to add a siding or spur. Didn't think it was realistic to have the main track serve an industry.

I believe this is on the old N&W Sprouse Creek branch. Not sure if you meant mainline but this not a mainline.

I mean a track (probably branchline) that keeps running to other areas or industries beyond this industry. As in, would a train coming from somewhere else simply pass thru this loader?

Ed's Law says that somewhere there is a loader that would do that but the vast majority are on dedicated sidings.

The local brings the empties up to the loader.  As they're loaded they get shoved (or the industry uses a car puller) onto track heading off into the distance.  The next local will pull the loaded cars back out through the loader.

I have seen many cement coaling towers used for steam that have remained though no longer used or needed and have trains running under them .

There's a coaling tower on the NS main, ex N&W, at Prichard, WV, literally across the road from where I work.

As for track around flood loaders, most of the newer ones tend to stay fairly clean, except directly under the loader.  The operators are good at hitting the car, but more importantly, most of the cars today seem to be solid-bottom coal gons.  No doors, so no coal leaking out, so the track stays cleaner.  If your loader handles hoppers, especially older hoppers, where the doors don't seal tight, there will be a lot more coal on the ground.

In this case, the mine is the end of the line.
