So, I need to model this Heavyweight car

OK

For obvious reasons I need to figure out a way to model this.

the HW car "Payne" was Pullman Plan 3523, Build Lot 4823. It was a 6 Compartment / 3 Drawing Room heavyweight car, scrapped in 1960.

Here it is seen as part of a WW2 Troop Train

Interestingly enough, it was in the same lot of 20 cars as the "Donazetti", which is presently at the Mad River and NKP Museum, in Bellevue, Ohio

so...

anyone every heard of a HW 6/3 arrangement that was produced?

Paging Jim Laboda

Eric (Payne)

Pecos River offered one, but I don't know the plan number.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I might have one that I would be willing to part with.  I'll check when I get home.

In the future it is likely that Micro-Trains will eventually do this car since it was a car that was very common on the top rated trains... and, yes, the did occasionally show up on MAIN (troop) trains as well (for the upper brass).  Another car type, the Plan 2522 7 Compartment - 2 Drawing Room sleepers, were also often used on the top trains because of the demand that was present for "Room" type cars.

Both would be perfect companions to the 3 Compartment - 2 Drawing Room - lounge observation cars that MT already offers... hopefully this type of car will be on the "short list" for cars they will be considering in the future... (ironically about half of the Plan 3523 cars did not find owners after Pullman's divestiture with a lot of cars being sold for scrap while the Plan 2522 cars seemed to have fared better with most being sold to railroads... the purchase of new lightweight cars affected how these cars were disposed of with roads like Santa Fe, Illinois Central, New York Central, Pennsylvania, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific all purchasing lightweight cars with similar accommodations...)

I feel like this would have been a car to show up in the Norfolk Southern golf specials to Pinehurst.

And Kentucky Derby trains and tour sections on the ATSF Grand Canyon....among other places.

I don't mean to embarrass MT, but it does seem a shame that so many sleepers are available in Z that are not available in N.

Eric,

I checked.  I thought I had an extra but I only have the one that I've modified for New Haven that is part of my Yankee Clipper consist.

PRB heavyweights turn up on a fairly regular basis.  I would watch eBay and check various brass dealers, as they get consignment collections from time to time.

PRB #1838G and #1838R are the item numbers.  There was one sold on BrassTrains.com not too long ago, so they are surfacing periodically.
