I know you said it was for Xmas, but if be running that thing so you can return it while there are known problems and BLI is taking them back.  Just my 2 cents....

I own two CSX units from two different stores.  I have some where between 7-8 hours on them. They are still running great, not a single problem.

Thanks, Otto! Yes, Shapeways water tank, NJ Intl switchstands, and the poles are Showcase Miniatures built up to match the variations seen in prototype photos from my era.

After about 2 hours of track time pushing a track cleaner full of 91% alcohol my 2 have finally started to smooth out. The gunk on the drip pad was incredible. And yes I cleaned the track the day before mine arrived.

Mine goes a few feet .. then stops .. goes a few feet and stops .. even after bright boy ..

I suggest that you return it (get an RMA #).

Did it have a thorough wheel cleaning ?

I didn't clean the wheels or my track before running mine. The black coating on both of mine looked just like what is on a Atlas or Kato loco. The trucks are very easy to remove so I remove them today and applied DeoxIT to the wipers and a little lube to the worm gear bearings. Back on the track and put about another hour on them. Real happy with mine, they run very well.

My ATLAS S2 locos did the same thing, only they would only move a couple inches. Cleaned the wheels and they ran perfect.

I'm doing that ... it's improving .. what gets me .. if the front truck hits a dirty spot, it stops .. so the pickup from all the wheels must not be consistent .. gotta clean the track better as well

Anyone had any luck programming these to a 4 digit long address or reading back any CV's?  Trying to track down if there is a problem with my system or a decoder problem.

No problems programming my 2 locos, reading CVs with JMRI and a Sprog II.

That was a very informative video - nice to see a manufacturer explain the problem, identify the components and offer a solution.
However from the electronics side I am really surprised that some components (like voltage regulators) would only fail under DC power. That to me is counter-intuitive to what I know about decoder circuitry. Also, haven't we seen seen, in this thread, some examples of failures in DCC-operated locos?
