For some reason I bought this:

It's rougher than a stucco bath tub.  :D

Well, it is cool classic with unmistakable engine sound!  I love it, but where is the bumper?
This looks to be one of the later models (has larger directionals and larger windows than the older models).  But I don't think it is new enough to have "elephant feet" taillights.  Yours look a bit smaller.

It's a 1970 and the bumpers are in the garage. It may look nice, but the paint seems to have been applied with a roller. I wonder how it is even glossy.  The pan is in good shape, but the heater channels are just about gone. Everything was plated over, but not replaced. I drove it into my garage, but it will be a while till it drives again. That photo was taken last friday, this was taken yesterday:

'70, huh? My VW spotting ability has obviously atrophied with age. :D

Too bad on the poor repaint. Really, the original paint was bulletproof. But I do see that dent in the driver's door now, so a little bit of panel beating is in your future. (I hate body work, so more power to you!)

You are showing the glory of old Beetles... so easy to do practically everything yourself. They were actually less-than-reliable during their day, but when something went wrong, there was a 95% chance you could make it drivable again with a temporary DIY fix. Which for many was permanent.

Still making slow progress on the mill.  I'm finally starting to build the scenery around it.

H-12-44 looks great, Wolf! :o What did you use for the handrail stanchions? That's one thing I haven't figured out yet on mine, especially the long stanchion just in front of the cab. Also, what did you use for the square housing for the red signal lights?

Spent the week d helping my parents with stuff in Baton Rouge. The only thing moving on the CN today when I went RAILFANNING was a track inspector:

Thanks!!

For the stanchions, I used flat brass stock (.010 X .018 - I think). For the single red signal lights I used either .040 X .040 or .060 X .060  Evergreen (I can't remember). Hope this helps.

Thanks again,
Wolf

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I was planning on going the Evergreen square stock route for the lights already, if I couldn't find something else better, but I'll have to look into the brass stock for the stanchions for sure.

This week I increased the greenery on my layout, and Neolubed some turnouts. More in my layout engineering thread. Have a great week!

More work on Spring Grove this weekend.  Open house is coming fast, I'm trying to get some more stuff done before I shut down any more scenery or building work and start cleaning track and debugging the layout.  Be sure to make the trip if you are in the south central PA, Maryland, Virgina or West Virginia areas as there are layouts spread all over, Sept 16 and 17. Watch the Crew Lounge for updates as we get closer to event.

I put together a warehouse building this weekend using 2 kits from Micro Engineering Doyle Distribution.  To this day, this is still known by employees at the mill and YorkRail as " The Black Shed ".  It used to be black and the name has stuck thru the years even though it's been repainted.  They keep bales of pulp in here until needed in the plant.  I caught CORP 2064/2065 taking a break to sort their paperwork trying to figure out which boxcars need to go where.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ] Hey, you New England guys ... I'm working on making a millpond, power house and dam on my layout and was wondering if this looks decent:

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

The powerhouse is the tan building in the "water"; the dam will run approximately along where the blue paper runs along straight right next to it.

Forgot to set the camera to close-up but you can get an idea of the height of the dammed water. I have it about half-inch higher than the water beyond the dam (just upstream of the through truss bridge). Once I get the water level set I can work on sculpting the banks.

Nice!  Is that stone wall made from snapped PVC flooring tiles?
