I'm amazed there is no discussion of this...  (see reservations for MTL DODX cars on blwnscale.com)

Pete has been as big a force in N-scale as anyone over the years. He is also one of the nicest and most ethical people I know - and I will miss him!

have visited the blw site several times this past week
and again tonight
did not find anything re: Pete retiring
but, certain, best wishes to him in the next chapter of his life and work

thx Lou for noting this

how will this affect blw? i have a few pre-orders, but assuming nothing will change
other than the wonderful support Pete has given to the hobby and us N Scalers

sincerely
Gary

Sounds likes order due BEFORE 2/18 go to BLW - due after that go to his brother's business Hogtrains.

I'm sure they will sort it out, they always do....

I'm surprised he has not put a post up yet regarding this, like he would for a new item on his page.  For the time being, the announcement is on the DODX page here:

Shoot!

First my mechanic retires...

then my barber...

and now Pete...

This "getting old" stuff really sucks.

We have been discussing this for a while in a typical Railwire fashion (as off-topic posts in another thread).  Here is a good jumping-in point to that discussion.
There were also few earlier posts related to BLW in that thread mixed in with actual topical threads.  :)

I am very bummed out by this news!  I wish Pete well in his new adventures!  I am not convinced hogtrainz is as committed to N as Pete has been.

I've bought stuff from Pete for over 20 years with never a single problem.  Good service, good communication, good prices.  His dedication to N scale will be sorely missed.

Thanks Lou for posting this info. This is disappointing as Pete has been my goto online shop for N scale products. The one thing I liked about BLW, they were N scale only shop. His brothers online shop is multiple scales, not necessary a bad thing but will he be able to carry the same N scale inventory as Pete did at BLW?

Although I lean more toward MTS these days because their on-line website shows much more “stuff”, I got hooked on the hobby in the late 60s/early 70s via Pete’s BLW site (I still have a reservation in for the Fox Valley CSX PRR heritage engine). In the early days he published a monthly newsletter highlighting what was available and what was new (and what the next KD collection piece was). He took the time to rate all the N scale engines (remember when the ConCor PA1 was the best loco on the market?). That saved a lot of bad purchases. Back then a lot of the Atlas eastern European engines were nothing but junk.

We then got to watch Atlas/Kato (think RS3 & FA1) get better and better (leaving Bachmann behind) and Pete had to keep adjusting his rating system upward because the newer engines were so much better than the elderly ConCor PA1.

Hats off to the guy who helped establish the N Scale market!

Back then, I think you got hooked on his newsletter :D
