I'm most impressed by the fact the a manufacturer finally has noticed the some first generation EMD switchers had full length handrails, something ignored in both HO and N scale up until now I believe.....

I can see a couple of the lightweight OB's in my future...

I'm actually looking forward to the 8600s not only to acquire them as-is, but also to use as a basis for kitbashing the comparable baggage-lounge, parlor-lounge, diner and obs. I doubt we ever will see any of those models RTR in N, and I'm extremely grateful that Rapido is releasing the coach which makes kitbashing the other variations a whole bunch easier.

I have literally wanted a Turbo since I was a boy and the prototypes hit the rails.  Badly enough that I bought 2 Bachmann Turbos, even ran them, and spent countless hours trying to figure out how to turn them into something decent (I failed...).     Spookshow has the gory details here: http://www.spookshow.net/loco/turbo.html.

I'm astonished at the prices on the pre-order page.  Not cheap by any means, but far less than I had feared.  The only problem is that I don't think I can afford more than one. 
Which one to choose?

edit - ordered the "Late Amtrak" Turbo with the full DCC/Sound package, and a couple of the 8600 coaches.  Now the hard part ...

     I can't wait to get my hands on   CN or VIA turbo. As Jason has posted they learned from their mistakes on HO one and this is suppose to run very smoothly. Now to decide if I want a sound equipped train. I always thought about getting the krappy Bachperson (man) version and usuing colored cloth tape to at least cover the gap between the various power car and coach units, but I knew the model was a basic POS so I never succumbed. The post war 8600 NH cars will be great to go with my prewar Pullman Bradley cars and FL9's. NH is one of the roads , Pennsey is another that I' am a closet fanzee of. Got to ride it once as a kid on a visit to New York visiting dads parents in Brooklyn. We rode in Washboard MU cars out to the burbs to visit a friend of my parents and his wife. Later have ridden what is now CON Dot at a NRHS Convention held in Hartford. Lastly I have reserved a S*** Pot of Baggage cars which look like they will be outstanding. You explain to anyone who asks that you have a second hobby- collecting historically significant passenger equipment.  It is what I would do if they had brought out a 1937 Super Chief with E1s that would end up running on my (planned) 1956 era Midwestern layout (which may get as far west as Albuquerque because of that Red River station kit).
