I talked to Intermountain regarding the Flex Coil trucks for Conrail, NS and CSX SD40-2's, and was told most likely they will be done.  They will be done later and offered as a swap out.  Fingers crossed.  Maybe I will get the four Conrail units.  I lobbied Scale Trains for an SD40-2, and they said it has not been ruled out.  On a side note, IM said the sales of the 53'6" flatcars have been disappointing both in N and HO.  That is why the second run was cancelled.

Why do we need scale trains to do SD40-2s when IM has SD40-2s again?
Maybe they can c5one out with something different..........

Is this the same, "squished" shell or have it's dimentions been fixed?

It is supposed to be all new tooling with proper proportions.  It looked good to the naked eye.  I did not have anything to compare it to however.

Thank you for posting all those photos @ai5629 - that's a real public service.  As many have said: what a great time to be in N scale.

It looks like my wallet will take a drubbing again next year, after barely surviving this year's onslaught of Trainworx and Scale Trains releases (to cite the worst offenders).  I love the Trainworx dry bulk trailer - they're a staple at Monolith's cement plant.  And I was completely caught off guard by the Atlas BX-177 and 40-foot well car plans - both very welcome.  Are these new announcements, or have I just been out to lunch?

I'll drool over the GEVO's in the other thread.

The Scale Trains Gevos were stunning in person.  They would do the same for an SD40-2 IMHO.  Plus, they would most likely get a good return on investment with this model.  I am leary to buy IM diesels based on their SD45-2's.  I returned the four I bought due to poor assembly and painting.  Hopefully things have changed.

Anyone that walked the show see any 53FT well cars that will be coming out? I was hoping Deluxe would bring them out again, but as stated earlier, we might not see anything from Deluxe.

N Scale Kits had a PRR class F33 well car on display.  Looked good, but the ride height was not good.  I will try to get a photo tomorrow.

Micro Trains 50' PS boxcars.  These are really nicely done.  According to MTL, they are using existing 50' underframe, but will get correct ride height by adjusting how the shell sits on the underframe.  I lobbied for Conrail and Reading BR50L's.  They added them to their list.

The ride height was OK.  I was told that was not the final product.  The proper ride height will be achieved by making the shell sit a little further down on the underframe.  They are going to use their current 50' underframe for these cars.  Thanks.

I suspect the MT cars are still stretched.  You can see that the bottom door track is high.  It should be located on the sill, not above it.

Still, having an actual prototypical sill style immensely improves the looks over the old 50' versions.

From what I remember, the 'new' 50' PS-1's are modified existing tooling. 

There is no way to have a 'correct' ride height as the body of the car is too tall.  I'd expect MTL to split the difference between too high and too low. I'm sure they'll use this tooling for many years to come with many releases.  It's too bad they couldn't have fixed it with these changes.

 I actually meant the height of the body itself and not the right height.  But it's good to know they're going to improve the ride height too.

The ones with the compressed shell are the 50' exterior post boxcars and the 60' hy cube boxcars.
