When I made my FLEA
https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=42087.0

I was intentionally making something silly.  A foobie.

But when I made it, I was aware of a real one- the little truck mounted electric that Milwaukee Rd used at Deer lodge.

And then someone posted a modern one used at a CN yard.  I had never seen that one before.

That got me thinking, let's post photos of prototypes of truck mounted switcher-critters.
The reason I propose this thread here (as opposed to the prototype forum) is because this is specifically an N scale challenge to model these.   They are a cinch in HO and O.

Maybe these will inspire someone to make one.

So I'll start off by posting three that I have come across.

And here is a new one I found.  Conrail!

Anybody know of any others?

Conrail had several of these..
At least one rode on either an Alco or S truck..

Does this count?

I was thinking of specifically home brew kinds of things that were built on locomotive trucks.
I wasn't thinking of critters in general.
If we include those, then that opens up a huge number of possibilities.

In fact, that CSX electric switcher may not qualify either.  It is indeed small, but I don't think it is mounted on a recycled truck.

But this one you posted is exactly what I was thinking about.
Wow.  Good find.

I'm not sure if this qualifies, but is a gasoline electric engine once used at a peatary. An odd build to say the least.

That peatery contraption looks like some of the "speeders" Northwest and BC logging roads used to use.

I would love to see a TP56 made. :D

A Kato Mid Production SD40-2 truck would be a great starting point. Just needs a body and a motor... The motor may be the hardest thing to source...

Damn shame they are sold out currently...
