Cast resin de-skirted "Blue Goose" build.

Started with one of my full-skirted castings and removed the front lower and under cab skirting.
Chassis used is a Con-Cor Rail Baron J3a.
Front shortened and weight rounded.
Tender lengthened as well as the brass wheel wipers, also weight narrowed and additional weight added at rear.
Uses factory draw bar.

Thanks Gordon.

I just talked with Jason today, fact hes the one that asked me if I remembered to post these last two builds here, I said WOOPS !

He said his plans were to eventually get back to his trains once the Baby's here.

Sending me another Kato FEF-3 to paint in Greyhound for him, said that might help him get back in the swing of things.

Give him time, he's bitten by his trains, same as all us are !

 You Noticed 😜

Yeah, I've stalked you guys mostly!  If I could just finish building motorcycles I could get some model railroading done.  I don't know how I got my priorities so screwed up😂

Tell me more about those tender steps, and what is that thingy around the stack?

You're making me seriously think about casting my B&O Cincinnatian now...

Thanks Jason, but --------------------------------------- if you hadn't made the casting, I wouldn't have been able to build one !
Same goes for your casting of the UP 49er, SP AC-9 and all others -------------- LOL !

As soon as I get your Blue Goose I'll do everything on yours as I did on mine, "TWIN" Blue Gooses !
Never thought to ask you the other day, do you have a couple extra Greyhound decal sheets as it takes one and a half per engine because of the stripes. I do have one new sheet left and never ordered any more yet but need to.
I'll go on and get both your FEF-3's painted so no big hurry on the extra decals if you still have some.

The tender steps are different sized brass ladders drilled and glued.
Santa Fe used stack extensions that could be raised or lowered. Main reason by raising the stack it would send the smoke higher up above the cab as well as passenger cars, or in freight service to keep the cab clear.
I built the stack using brass tubing, the extending arms was made by cutting very thin styrene into very thin strips then cut to length and glued in place.

Interesting casting the B&O Cincinnatian, would be another great build !
Let me know if you do, would be interested in buying a casting ---------------------------  ;)

BEAUTIFUL JOB!!!!!!

Question: what paint/colors did you use?

Being in auto body repair and refinishing, I have a car/truck color chart book from Dupont called SpectraMster showing every different shade of all solid colors.
There's six pull out thick ring binder charts, blue color shades, red color shades, yellow color shades, green color shades, light color shades and dark color shades.
From decent color pictures I seen when the Blue Goose was new the colors were real close to what Con-Cor used on their Blue Goose releases.
I matched the colors and called my buddy at our auto paint store, gave him the mix code numbers and had him mix me 4oz of both colors.
The light blue is Nason brand and the dark blue is ChromaBase, both auto base-coat paints.
Light blue code #BS1821F, dark blue #BS525K.
Thinned with special base-coat reducers.
The aluminum color I used is Tru-Color #TCP-013. Only problem with Tru-Color is they state "Ready To Spray", not so, too thick. I thin each bottle a 1/4 or more with Advantage #192 Acetone.
Have used this book to match the hard UP color shades and Illinois Central as well as may others.
Advantage using this type paint (same as Tru-Color brand), I can spray one color, let dry 1/2 hour and mask for a second color, etc.
No long waiting period for drying, can have a tri-colored engine painted in just a few hours, ready for clearing, decaling, solvaseting and finish coating.
This is the same paint I use for all my Kato FEF-3 Greyhound paint jobs.
On my UP 49er is all Tru-Color paints which works the same way.
Only primers I use is SEM brand self-etching primer sold at auto paint stores in large spray cans sprayed into an air brush bottle (no thinning required), PPG automotive light grey and dark red lacquer primer thinned with Dupont #105 lacquer thinner.
Finish coat I use for decling is Auto PPG  DCA 468 Hi-Performance Clear thinned with the Dupont #105 lacquer thinner, followed by either the DCA 486 for high gloss, 1/2 mixture of the DCA 486 and Testors Dullcote lacquer for a semi-gloss or straight Testors Dullcote lacquer for the flat finish.

Hi,

Thanks for the elaborate and clear answer.
There is only one little problem..... I live in The Netherlands and these paints are not available overhere......
When I get to the point of building this beautiful engine I might ask you to send some paint (same quantity, paid in advance of course) to me.

Good luck and happy modelrailroading, Dirk Blikkendaal
