Used my recently purchased chopper to cut ties for my #8 crossovers (Attachment Link) I then printed out the fast track templates. Marked what size ties go where and glued them all down to the paper template. (Attachment Link) Here it is with all the ties glued down. (Attachment Link) After that I set the switches down into the ties, verifying everything was good and then glued them down to the ties taking care to not get glue on the points. I also soldered a wire to the frog to connect to either a tortoise or Cobalt switch. (Attachment Link)
I'm a little late to the party because I had to go back to Wawa after they left the meat off my hoagie, but here's my update.I went to @chicken45's son's birthday party and saw these guys yukking about. (Attachment Link)
I got a set of weathering powders. I do like them, but like you said, dull coat takes the edge off them...often too much for my taste. I feel like I can never get powders to "stick" when applying them. I use make up applicators and a lot of pressure, and multiple applications to get the desired effect. Then I tried Pan Pastels. Problem solved. But dang they are expensive, but at least one tin is a lifetime supply. I'd have the whole pallet of they sold them at half the quantity and half the price.
So... I notice that Michael's Crafts carries Panpastel. Have you ever tried to buy them there with one of those "50% off any one item" coupons that they put out (rather frequently) ? I remember getting a full set of Prismacolor colored pencils that way. It dropped a $120 set to 60 bucks and they honored it. One could buy a "Landscape" set of Panpastels for half price that way.
