[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

I spent few hours last week creating a vector-based logo and then created the artwork and printed the decals.

This is a photo of the 1:1 cab and a scan of the N scale Atlas GP7 cab with the logo to show the logo size.

Photo of the a decal sheet. It contains 42 logos.

Each sheet costs $15.00 (post paid - First Class Mail).  For payment methods I perfer PayPal but will also accept money orders or personal checks. Send me a PM if interested.

LOL, thanks!  That is why I like to work with vector graphics format (not bitmaps).  But that photo of a cab is really a small part of a larger image that I cropped and resampled, so it is blurry. I used another, better, image of the logo when I was tracing the logo.

Peteski:  I'll agree with you that, if you start with a photograph, vector graphics are the only way to go.  Trying to convert a photo to a decent bitmap is almost impossible.

Yes, but that is only the tip of the iceberg.
Vector-based artwork is so much easier to manipulate and/or modify without any loss of resolution.  The only time I do not use vector graphics is when the original image is not easily represented by vectors and where the sharpness and clarity are not important. Graffiti is a good example.  Corel Draw allows me to size the bitmap exactly to what is needed and I also re-sample the bitmaps at 600 dpi (which is the native resolution of the Alps printer).
The other problem with bitmaps and Alps is that all bitmaps are rectangular in shape. If the image to be printed in that bitmap is another shape (like oval) and it needs a white ink undercoat, Alps would lay down white ink in the shape of the rectangle which contains the oval image.  I can work around that by creating a mask, but none of that is needed when the artwork is in a vector format.

Did you send this to the NYC historical society?

I bet their modeling group would be interested and would use it as newsletter fodder

Hmm... then Peteski would
be even more famous...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

I did not (or even think about it).  This was done basically as a favor for my Railwire friends.  With all the projects I'm juggling I shouldn't even have taken it on, but it piqued my interest and seemed simple enough.

Just pass it along to Noel Widdlefiel there at the NYCSHS

Outstanding.  Would ever make your CONX Chemtrec and stencil decals available?

Also are you going to ever post how you made your fred?

I made the FRED myself. It uses the old-school LM3909 LED flasher IC in a custom circuit which uses DCC track voltage.  It is a physically large circuit but it it features a realistic rate of flashing and a gradual fade of the light (like the real thing).  The FRED itself is a piece of black styrene with a 0402 size red LED inside.  The red reflector is just a tiny piece of a red Godiva aluminum foil candy wrapper.  I have construction photos and I'm eventually going to write an article about it.

This is exactly what I mean - those dozens of partially-completed projects. Yes, I'll eventually print some of those Gas Train decals for sale. Probably after some model RR company comes out with a factory-decorated CONX cars.  I was thinking of writing a magazine article about the FRED, but I might just post it on the forum.  I spread myself too thin.  :|

Peteski

You have a proud heritage of 888 pages of post and some excellent modelling.  I can figure it out from you description but I would love to see the  FRED article/post.
