Maybe some green smoke out the stacks would help ? Everything is almost the same bright green . I tried hiding the fascia with my hand but that didn't help much . Even so I am green with envy .

I earthed up the fascia , you be the judge .

up1950s - I agree that's a LOT of Green there!!

The fascia color is the same as the FCN's.  But, I just went downstairs.  The FCN's looks a lot darker shade, Then what's in the photo.
The Plant/boxcars/Loco's colors are Modelflex "BN Cascade Green".  The two boxcars on the "Paper #2" track, the "Darker shade" ones.  Are the Original cars, that I painted some 20+ years ago.
I painted up the other 2 cars, when I gave the building a slight touchup..

As far as the fascia,  You'll have to argue with the rest of the club, on that !! ;)

With the DCC work, pretty much completed.  The scenery is moving full speed ahead.

And the Port Narrows Bridge (4th edition, )

Now, we can progess to the rest of the layout...

Jerry G.

That's a beautiful bridge. I do have a question. Where I'm from a green light on a bridge over water denotes the center of the ship navigation channel, and the red denotes the edge of the channel and/or an obstruction, such as a bridge pier. Are the light colors on the bride correct?

What this scene needs now is a John Deere dealership added to it! ;)

Still making slow progress on the mill.  I FINALLY finished all the shake shingles.  Now I can move on to the tar paper roofs and the the other buildings.

I will have to Look into that.    I was told that this was correct, but I am not a Boater..

Hi Rick, The only thing I didn't see covered in your excellent article on the PRSL was how you got trains into and out of Pavonia Yard. Do all trains have to back out onto the mainline?
Rich S.
Running the Camden Pavonia Yard is not for the faint of heart, it is a very busy place, but some trains do arrive pre-built from staging. I have my 3 original staging tracks (26-30 cars each) and added a 4th in a hiding place behind the viaduct (23 tank cars and a cabin). All the 3 main staging trains come out engine first so there are no problems with back-up moves there.

One of the 7 Pavonia yard tracks is set apart as the Millville terminus and a second one for Deepwater.

In the above picture, the deepwater empty hoppers would be on the rightmost track (in place of the tank cars)  and the Millville loaded sand gons on the next track to the left.

Since the PRSL non-Atlantic City branches (which I model) all terminate without outside railroad connections all the trains are out and back “turns", 6 (pairs) in all to duplicate the PRSL 1954 freight schedule. Most of the locals are built on the lead into the yard and then taken out and deposited on one of the 2 mainlines ready for power to be added to the appropriate front end (via the cross-overs). Two yard leads allow the yard work to be choreographed for simultaneous use but we haven’t progressed to that point yet (only operating 3-4 times a year it is hard to remember lessons learned from one session to the next).

Dispatching a train buys time to build the next one. The day starts with the Philadelphia transfer (a chance to duplicate real life with @cbroughton ‘s RT624). It’s cars are blocked into the 4 locals (Millville, Deepwater, Salem, and the local Camden industries.

Next up is the Reading (loaded) coal drag (WY841) from staging track #2. It goes directly through Pavonia to the Atlantic City Electric power plant in Deepwater. It uses Reading RS3s (prototypical) since the Reading usually won the coal contract. It is followed by the Deepwater local (WY843) built in Pavonia.

When WY841 reaches Deepwater, it drops the loaded coal hopper on its terminus track and gathers the empty hoppers from the aforementioned dedicated Deepwater track, reverses the engines and “caboose” (Reading) on the mainline and heads back to Pavonia as WY840. Returning it runs through Pavonia and heads nose first into back into staging track 2.

Meanwhile WY33/34 the Millville “Sand Hog’ leaves staging track 3 and runs directly through Pavonia to the Millville via a different route out of Woodbury. It goes south with empty gondolas which it swaps for loaded sand gons from the dedicated Millville yard track.

Pavonia yard then builds and dispatches the Millville (WY27/26) and Salem (WY51/50) locals (the Salem local has dedicated yard tracks in Woodbury).

The end of the day sees the WY79/80 tank sweeper leaving the 4th staging track behind the viaduct. Pavonia yard supplies the power. As soon as it leaves Pavonia, the Camden local does its work (since the 4th staging track was blocking the lead to New York shipyard (the tracks in back of Camden)). It reverses at Deepwater and returns back through Pavonia back into staging track 4 (no need to worry about loads/empties with tank cars).

As you can visualize Woodbury and Westville stay busy with all the trains going one way and then the other and Woodbury possesses an icing facility (mostly pre-mechanized reefers in the early 1950s). What amazes me is that my operating crew can consistently get all this work done in about 4 hours. We go through about 15 engines, all are era and railroad accurate except for the (5) Atlas PRSL GP38s which didn’t come along until the late 1960s. Please Atlas or Fox Valley I BEG of you, make some Baldwin AS-16s!

Northbound WY840 with empty hoppers returning from Deepwater meeting southbound (to Millville) WY33 with empty gondolas in Woodbury.

The persons, giving me the Marking information.  Keep referring to the "Three R Rule".
I just did a quick online search and found the USCG site.  There is a section on, Lateral Aids to Navigation

Lateral Aids to Navigation are generally used for well-defined channels to indicate the
route to be followed. These Aids show the sides of a navigable channel, mark junctions
and forks or splits in the channel, indicate the safe side to pass a hazard to navigation,
and mark the safe centerline on wide bodies of water.
They are used in conjunction with a conventional direction of buoyage (a local direction
of buoyage when approaching a harbor, river estuary, or other waterway from seaward).

“Red, Right, Returning”
You may have heard the phrase, “Red, Right, Returning.” This expression refers to the
fact that when returning (entering a channel from the open sea or proceeding upstream),
a boater must keep the red Aids on the right (starboard) side of the boat. These Aids
have even numbers, and the numbers should increase as you proceed inland.
When proceeding toward open water (seaward), navigate so that the green Aids are
to starboard. In this instance, you will see odd numbers on the Aids and the numbers
should decrease as you proceed toward open water (seaward).

Now I did not know this!   Ya, learn something new everyday!!  :D

I have two (2) cast resin, Water Buoys.

They are quite old, and have been sitting on the layout for sometime now.  I packed them away, so they wont get damaged with all this reconstruction.
The trick now, will be to "Wire" them up to match the bridge lights. I will cutoff the "Molded-on" lights, And replace them with PICO-sized LEDs..  :o

I have a question!    Is JD green closer to Burlington Northern Green (that is the color used) OR is it closer to KATY green?

Funny that the two recent N scale deserters are posting their HOishness on the N scale list.

Big buoys like that are not generally seen in rivers. You find them well off shore or in large harbors. Rivers will usually have flat day marks of the appropriate size and color on pilings. Those would make great loads on a barge or flatcar however.

Lateral navigation  is different than bridge lighting. Search for something like "USCG Bridge Lighting Manual" and see the second page.

Thanks

I just did a screen print of the mentioned page. (33 CFR 118.65)

Guess I will be cutting apart the harness.   I constructed the assembly out of styrene rod stock and shrink tubing, in case of repair.

The whole assembly was then tied to the lower bridge framework with magnet wire.  It will be easier to redo the harness.  Than I can attach ALL of the lights to the bridge...
