Damn that Conrail ex EL class CE16A is pretty sweet!  The prototype was a 4650 cubic feet car built in 1968 I believe.  That was the earlier body style with the stiffener welded across the top of the side (model not available in N scale).  I may have to let that slide and support this release.  Very well done MTL.

The Iowa Traction ex McCloud River three pack is really nice too... The graffiti is very believable and the rust is so nice I need a tetanus shot...

Awesome work @Shipsure

Question for the Conrail gurus- what service were these used for on Conrail? Grain from Illinois/Indiana/Ohio to points east? Feed service? Fertilizer?

Basically would there be any reason for this car to be hauling corn or sorghum from Central Texas to somewhere on Conrail?

This Conrail center flow most likely started off being assigned to grain service (most grain on Conrail moved from IL, IN and OH east).  Conrail painted covered hoppers that were in grain service oxide red up until 1982.  After the export grain boom of the early 80's ended, this car could have been reassigned to chemical service.  The fact that the paint is coming off it means one of two things.  Either the car surface was not properly prepared before repainting or it was in chemical service, and the commodities it carried destroyed the paint.  As far as the car being loaded in Texas and moving east, I feel that is possible.  The car could have taken a load west and then used to ship a load back east.  Or it could have been assigned to a shipper in Texas to send the commodity it shipped to a customer on Conrail's system.  I do not have any specific examples, just speculation.  Thank you.

Jeff,

That's very helpful info, thank you! I've been looking for a few plausible off line cars to add to my groups of MKT and MP home road hoppers. I think this one and maybe a couple other CR grain hoppers would be a good change of pace.

No Atlas stuff on the Micro-Trains thread!

Hmm... ha ha ha ha ha,
Kiz has a sense of humor...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Seriously, the more I look at that Conrail hopper the more I think this is @Shipsure 's best work yet.  That is a car I would almost be laothe to run because it'd make the rest of my own weathered stuff look like crap!

I wish MTL still did HOn3 and were weathering them to this standard.
