A most excellent RRMBC Meet

This past weekend, from May 5 - 7, the Railway Modellers of British Columbia (RRMBC) held their meet at the Simon Fraser University campus in Vancouver, BC.

I saw some excellent layouts (Mark Dance's and Gary Hinshaw's), and the model display room was stocked with a truly beautiful assortment of great work.  I have completely lost track of who built what in that room and I apologize for that.  My wife and I attended the meet and we had a rather hectic journey getting up there from Portland via Amtrak in the middle of a very active mudslide season.

I did a clinic on N Scale steam scratchbuilding, and I want to take this opportunity to say "Thank You" to Mark and the RRMBC for inviting me, and also to all the attendees who made it fun and exciting for me to do this.  They were a gracious, patient, engaged audience who were enthusiastic with their questions and their suggestions.

To anyone who missed this, I heartily recommend it.   It is 3 days of wonderful clinics, layout tours, and a display of excellent modeling, and the RRMBC members will make you feel at home.  Vancouver BC is a beautiful city, so you can easily bring your spouse or family and make a vacation out of it.

From Cari and myself: THANK YOU.  Looking forward to next year!

Thank you for coming Max!  Your visit and clinic were one of the highlights for me.  It was great to meet Cari as well.

Glad you and Cari both had a good time our side of the 49th parallel, Max.  Your steam locomotive scratch-building clinic was worth the price of registration all by itself!!  The rest of the meet was a bonus!  It was great to meet you in person after we have exchanged numerous PMs here on TRW.

Cheers,

MK

Here you go...

The clinic presentations are also posted but only accessible to paid attendees unfortunately...but an added incentive to participate in 2018!

I believe all aspects of the Meet went off well and attendees had a good time.  We will post a summary to the various forums once we have the results of the follow up survey.

thanks

Max (the Model Railroading God) Magliaro...now that is going to stick .  We need a new symbol for "MR God" to replace  :ashat: though I think...

That's an amusing, and yet at the same time, very serious and thoughtful blog post Mark is linking to.
The RRMBC meet packed a serious amount of craftsmanship "firepower".  Speaking to that room, I learned a lot from the comments and questions I got back from everyone, which is what I expected.  The best thing about it was that everybody was smart and talented.  Nobody was a "God".  They are all just smart, friendly modelers who've worked very hard at what they do, and it shows.

I especially enjoyed the display room, and the fact that it was an exhibition, not a competition.
