The Carolina Sandhills Lines in HO Scale

Of significant note as additions to the fleet this year, The Carolina Sandhills Lines took delivery of Intermountain GP16s after eight or ten years of vaporware.  Can you believe it!?  This pair has received the addition of sorely needed Scale Sound Systems speakers to replace the tinny IM factory speakers.  People have asked whether it’s worth upgrading to Scale Sound speakers.  I’d say there might be a slight improvement as compared to the ESU sugar cube speakers, but there’s tons of improvement over the IM speakers.

Nice looking units there DFF; I’m hoping to eventually snag myself one of the Pee Dee River units at some point. I agree with you on the Scale Sound Systems speaker, I put one in on my sound install on my Athearn GP50 and it’s noticeable even when compared to the midsize speaker I’ve been using previously. So much more definition of the sound with the enclosure design.

Thanks, @packers#1!  I like those Pee Dee River GP16s, too, Sawyer, and I even considered one to run on the A&R.  But, that’d be overkill, considering that I already have three GP16s, decorated for the SCL, SBD, and ACWR.

FWIW the A&R owns the Pee Dee River so they would just be taking it out for a run after inspection/maintenance to ensure it works properly    but yes, three may in fact be enough!

Thanks, @Dave V!  Mark my words, it may have to wait for retirement, but I will move back to Carolina some day.  I love the area north and west of Winston-Salem, e.g., up towards Pilot Mountain and Mt. Airy and out towards Boone.  Did someone say Yadkin Valley RR?  Flashback!  The last time I was in Rural Hall in the early- to mid-1990s, there was a handful of ex-N&W GP7s or GP9s tied down.  Good times.

That was my justification for a Pee Dee River Geep on the A&R.  Who am I kidding?  The perfect amount is always the amount of Geeps that you own plus one.

It could be the speaker, Adam, but have you considered messing with the volume?  Either the other units are too loud, or this one needs the volume turned up?  FWIW, I turn down the volume on my fleet to about 30% of the factory settings.  They come out of the box waaaaaaaay too loud.

Ooh, there’s some nice areas around Raleigh.  NC State or UNC (Chapel Hill) are cool.  Just say no to Duke.
