I like the overall effect, and the bunker looks great as with the flower bushes. Is there any way to get the green a little less coarse? I feel like it may be a good application for WS fine ground foam.

You could almost use green craft foam or felt for the green.  Even in HO you wouldn't have a lot of texture.

Just remember when you're at Michael's, ask the nice lady in the vest to pick out the green for you...

I used fine ground foam, and I sanded it.  I think felt will look like, well, felt.  The green looks about as good as I can imagine that I’ll get it, plus it satisfies me in person.  As for flatter, I intentionally made the green slope, like many do on the 1:1 courses.

You might could sprinkle some of the sand on it and get it into the crevices like some of the less well kept courses can look like. I wonder if you tried ironing it like a shirt? Of course, if you’re satisfied with it in person, I would probably just leave it alone.

I think it's perfectly fine as-is. The only final touch I can see would be to finish the fascia.

Agreed.  I just still haven’t decided on a color for the fascia.

After painting a locomotive, I felt a little braver about taking on the city buildings in Aberdeen.  First, I had to finish the structures to get them ready for paint.  For several years, these buildings have been nothing more than four walls glued together.  I built all of the doorways, and, on this first city block, I had to build up the gaps in the foundation because I didn’t use the factory sidewalk.  All of the white styrene around the bottom is new.



I got this block into primer, and then went on and finished out the two other buildings, including roofs and chimneys.  The storefront on the single story structure was no fun.

Yeah, I agree.  I used green on the Seaboard Central 2.0.  I liked it.  I just need to get my wife to pick out the right green for this layout.  That layout ended up being fall; this one is set in springtime.

I used to be all about black for fascia. I did use it for the Colorado Midland version 2.0. But I used a gray/brown (Sherwin/Williams Porpoise) on the HOn3 Rio Grande Southern (color card below). It's on the same color palette as the wall color below the layout (SW Wordly Gray) and it doesn't make the room as dark. It works well with the drier Southwestern scenery colors I model. It's there, but it's neither harsh nor obvious.



For you, Dave, I think a dull green or olive would be just what the Doctor (Hotballz) ordered.

I just bought paint 1/2 hour ago. I usually grab the pre-colored quart of semi gloss black. I hate the gloss, but anything more matte will show finger prints and other marks. Anyways the quart was like $19 bucks instead of the $7 it used to be. So I walked up the isle and a custom mixed color was basically the same price. I looked for pullman green and bought the darkest olive green they had. It is drying right now, but I have a feeling I will mix black into it until it is very dark green.

I first tried a green tree color I had for backdrops and hated it. Compared to my scenery it was like a neon green sign flashing. Mabey I'm overexaggerating 

What I really wanted was a old weathered wood look, but I blend the edges of the scenery right to the edge and didn't want gap. I looked at a vinyl wrap type stuff, but screw it I just bought paint.

I'll let you know if I darken it up so much that it's black again

@Dave V, I’ll get my wife to look at that chip and see what she thinks.  I was thinking of finding a green that coordinates well with the Medium Green SuperLeaf material that I use for my trees.
