Tonight, I completed all decaling on both sides of what is now officially Seaboard Central GP9 No. 1700:



Hopefully, I can begin weathering this weekend, but I’m awaiting a delivery of modeling materials that includes a couple of cans of clear finish, which I need to seal the decals before weathering.

Dave, I really like the patch job on the Geep. I think keeping the BN number on the long hood, since it’s keeping the same number, makes sense with what other shortlines would have done; cover what we need to and get it rolling! The gull on the long hood is a nice touch, and something that a shop crew could easily add.

Every railroad needs a caboose:



This was an Atlas Magor caboose custom painted in an exclusive release by East Coast Railroads that I desecrated.    Well, I didn’t need an NS Ry. caboose anymore, since the ex-NS Ry. line on my layout is now the fictional Seaboard Central.  It also wasn’t expensive for a custom caboose, so here we are.  This caboose (ex-NS Ry. No. 369) is now SC No. 112.  It will get a bit of weathering, but I still need to apply the same decals to the other side.  I’m also considering numbers on the ends of the cupola.

Thanks, guys.  I got the decals on the other side tonight and applied road numbers to the ends.  I was considering the numbers on the ends of the cupola, but, after researching prototype caboose photos, I decided to apply the road numbers on the end walls.

Next step is to apply a clear coat, but I’ve heard nothing about an order I placed over one week ago for some paint supplies.  So, my SC Geep and caboose projects are on hold.

No go.  The store I ordered it from contacted me back and said they did not have the Rock Geep in stock after all.  Boo!  But, it worked out better, since it's more likely that the SC would pick up something older than a late-model second generation locomotive.  A first generation GP9 fits the bill.

Thanks, Ed.  I though the gull might be too much, so I left it off the caboose.  The circle around the gull comes out fairly large and did not fit within that panel I patched.  Thankfully, the decal maker sent me an extra page of decals, because he printed the first batch slightly undersized.  That slightly undersized lettering fit into that patched panel on the caboose perfectly.

Thanks, Ryan.  I also chose to go with the roadname rather than the gull on the caboose, because, otherwise, nothing would have the roadname written out: e.g., plans to put "Seaboard Central" on the bridge were quashed and the locomotive only got an "SC."
