Same thing he did to us. Closed every major class yard except Pigs Eye, and moved switching to intermediate terminals. So now Red deer is marshaling trains over the road for Calgary while Alyth sits mostly empty...

Good for the pay check, and cuts down on Terminal dwell times, but congestion over the road is the price. Getting cars in block can turn a 30 minute lift into a 2 and a half hour process...

He tried to do the same thing when he was at CN (at one point closing Symington) It didn't work out so well there...

I've heard from some of my vendors in the industry that CSX has cancelled contracts for +/- 500,000 cross-ties this year.
Supposedly, CSX has asked that those delivered against the contract already, be picked up at sellers expense and be re-sold.

Was talking to a manager in infrastructure at work yesterday... Apparently the latest plan is to rebuild Alyth, funny how as soon as Hunter leaves we realize we needed it all along lol...

He said they want to rebuild it as a bowl with dedicated leads at either end, no hump but should be a big improvement over the empty yard that's there right now :)

With a bit of luck we may even see 2816 re-emerge from hiding!

Deferred maintenance is such a mistake.  Why doesn't railroad management learn?

Keep our fingers crossed... Creel has already said he's bringing back the Beaver so hopefully the new era is a little more friendly...

We're going to have to spend alot of money in the next few years tho, so perhaps rebuilding will have to take priority.

It looks good on the Quarterly, at least for a while. Then the smart shareholders know when to dump the stock - when maintenance numbers on the Annual or 10-Q start to rise versus revenue. You bail, invest elsewhere for 2-5 years, and come back once the plant fixes are paid for.

That's how SP did it for close to a century, although their trick was to sell-off bits of their vast land holdings when they needed cash for capital improvements.

Hunter took our stock from ~50$ to ~200$ a share by slash and burn...

That's what management learnt... Gonna cost us now, but as Mike said the people behind it cashed out and moved on...

That being said I'm happy for the job security, really nice for the company to be desperate for people when I'm low on the seniority list.  :D

IDK, the multi-mark had it's place in the 70s.

I know, I know, it shall not be called the pacman logo... To be fair, it was a pretty sharp corporate image.

That's probably the older container terminal in Mobile.  A new one opened up about two years ago (I think by the port Authority).  Business will probably move over there eventually.
