N-scale semaphore signals

NJ Internatioonal used to make these, but now they're blanked out on the site. Does anybody know of any other suppliers? They don't have to be functioning. (the semaphores, not the suppliers).

Aren't those NJ Int. semaphores quite a bit oversize (and chunky) for N-scale?

Al, go to the club 15 miles south of you next Thursday and negotiate for the semaphore signal left by a Navy guy who is somewhere on the various oceans or seas known to man. His aircraft carrier was leaving and he had to be on it. The club doesn't need it as they have decided on a modern era.

He will likely appreciate your purchase, if his ship ever comes back to a port near us. I will make sure, guaranteed, the club holds the price in escrow on his return.

On the SP, upper quadrants were used for ABS signaling-- many of the old semaphores got replaced by H-2 searchlights.  Lower quadrants were used for Train Order boards (stop here, or slow down we have orders for you to pick up)

You could make them functional (just like the NJ Int. ones).  Use a brass pushrod insode the mast and animate it using a solenoid, one of the slow-motion switch machines or even a micro-servo.

Small diameter thin-wall brass tubing is available from Special Shapes Co. (now division of K&S Metals).

There was an article in N scale Magazine circa 1998-2001 about scratchbuilding animated semaphores... was very detailed and inspiring...

Alkem used to have a brass sheet with different types of semaphore blades that could be used for either trainorders or regular signals. I know they sold it with other details such as switch stand blades and whistle posts on the same sheet, but I can't think of the title for the entire sheet. I bought the last one from MB Klien several years ago, they may pop up on ebay from time to time.
