New 1950s Vehicles from Showcase Mianatures

Showcase Miniatures has released five configurations of the IH R-190, and an additional configuration for their GMC cab-over.

The IH R-190 was produced for 1952 to 1965, and the GMC from 1948 to 1954.

Nice to see the old models get a new lease on life. Now that the pumper engine is updated to their modular system, I wonder what other cabs might be introduced with it. Hopefully, they will follow up with a ladder truck of some sort. The GHQ ALF is nice, but we need much more variety. A mid mount would be great. They were very popular in the 50's. I would personally LOVE a Mack-Baker scope - the FDNY trucks found homes in hundreds of departments in the second hand market.

I would also like to see (and would be willing to purchase) more fire trucks of various sorts, for the 1950s.  The GHQ Lafrance is, IIRC, a 1000 (1970), and would be great to have a 600 or 700.  Cars N Scale (Fine N Scale, nowadays) had a ladder truck on a '54 Mack chassis (I think- I have a kit but no instructions/documentation- but the radiator looks like their other Mack cabs), but it no longer shows up on their webpage.  I am hardly an expert, so no idea whether it is accurate.

You gotta remember there were no 1940's consumer vehicles built from 1942 to 46-7, because of war production. So at least the first half-decade of "'40s vehicles" were pre-war models and the late '40s are vehicles Rasputin offers. Unless you mean "'40s vehicles" are 1930's prewar ones? Even were some Model T's floating around then.

Thanks Carter, for the post here.  As usual, work in the shop keeps me from being up-to-date here on the forum.  This era of vehicles has my greatest interest and it seems to be a popular one for everyone else too.  We are definitely working on new cabs but, ever since Joe asked me to sculpt the R-190, it has been my favorite cab style.  Probably a lot of other people too (and this may be why CMW knocked it off).

Very nice. I love Macks in general, and the B is as classic as it gets.

 Now if only we got a 70's Brockway or Autocar dump trucks. These are by far my favorite.

Sorry, I meant no NEW STYLE model cars were built during that time. The pre-war versions continued to be cranked out yearly as use for military staff cars, MP cars, etc.

"All production was stopped on February 1, 1942 due to World War Two and President Roosevelt's banning of civilian car production. The low production totals for this model year were a direct result of the February civilian car stoppage. Every Chevrolet factory except the Saginaw Michigan Service plant was converted to war material manufacturing. The 1942 Chevy models were the very last prior to the war. Civilian car manufacturing didn't begin again until the summer of 1945."
