Anyone have experience with TR Hobby Products vehicles?

I've been searching for info about a cast pewter kit put out by TR Hobby Products, but cant seem to find much. Each kit is labeled with a simple catagory and number. No name or description on the outside of their boxes. Most are pretty recognizable and have a simple instruction sheet. But I have one I'm not to sure about. Its labled as Const 17. I think it might be a cold planer, but I can't tell for sure as neither of the two I have came with an instruction sheet. Does anyone know anything about these or could send me in the right direction?

Can't help with directions but your guess is right, it is a cold planer.

My googlefu is letting me down with the company, not finding much about them.

The piece that is throwing me off is the one under the hydraulic arms.  Judging from pictures on line of real equipment, the piece with ladder on it goes under center of main body, it's the grinding head.

What does the other side of main body look like ?

Here are a few more pics. I think it goes something like this. What throws me is the arm. It looks more like some kind of excavator/shovel boom instead of a conveyor. Also, there aren't any notches to accept the hydralic cylinders on the body. The odd peice in the other pictue seems to just be a sprue holding the exhaust stack that is placed on the opposite end from the boom. I guess they figured to leave it attached since it was so small.

Yep, I failed Googling too. Tried for a week or so whenever I had some spare time. Found quite a few sites dedicated to scale vehicles of all sizes. Even a pretty extensive one that I think was in German. Which Google translate helped with. But never found any of the vehicles which I have.

I only have one TR Hobby Products model, and it appears to be a knockoff of the Showcase Miniatures Kenworth T600 with sleeper.  I bought it at the World's Greatest Hobby on Tour that was in connection with the National N Scale Convention in Louisville, KY in 2008.  I believe the manufacturer was there with a booth, so he may still be doing train shows.

As for this model, I tried searching for asphalt grinder, and found this on Wikipedia:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavement_milling

Apparently pavement milling is the more common description of the process, and there are additional photos if you Google pavement milling machines.

I hope this helps.

Yes, I'm familiar with what the machine is and does. Even had one right out my front door a couple years ago when they resurfaced our street. I'm just unsure how exactly this model goes together as both of the ones I have are missing their inst sheet. There just doesn't seem to be any notches or places to match the pieces up to. It'd be great to see a pic of how it was intended to go together. A member over on Trainboard actually found a phone numbr for TR Hobby Prod. It seems they are out of Florida and can be called on Mon, Wed, and Fri from 10am-2pm. (352) 465 5998. I figure I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what I can find out.

When you do ask him what else he has in production and where w can get it. That would be a cool flat car load if nothing else.

TR Hobby Products online store address:

http://stores.ebay.com/N-Scale-Customs/VEHICLES-/_i.html?_fsub=202248013&_sid=35410623&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

This kit was not actually manufactured by them, as they previously marketed a whole bunch of outdated, closeout stock that was in some cases water damaged and repackaged (e.g., GHQ Mi-Jack cranes).

The model looks like one of the old, imported, Stevens International pewter kits.

Neville,

Stevens International was my first inclination when I saw the kit, but I went through everything I had on Stevens International, and came up with nothing similar.  However, Stevens models were also marketed by other companies, such as Lytchett Manor Models.  http://www.lytchettmanor.co.uk/lytchett-manor/n-gauge-accessories-7  Skytrex and GEM/Fleetline were two other names that the Stevens International models could be marketed under.

PayRil,

As far as instructions go, they probably never existed.  Hien Nguyen also purchased a TR Hobby Products kit from the same vendor that I did at the Worlds Greatest Hobby on Tour show in 2008.  His kit looked just like the Showcase Miniatures Ford F-800 MOW truck.  Hien's wife came over to my table to take pictures of the one I had on display for the N Scale Vehicle Association so he would have a better idea of how it should be assembled.

And, I apologize for including the links.  I thought you were looking for a photo or drawing of the prototype to assist you in assembling the model since there were no instructions.

Carter,

Actually, like the now defunct E-R Models, Stevens International was primarily an importer of foreign product lines.

One of the reasons that many of the Stevens International blister carded N-Scale pewter vehicle kits appeared to be off-scale, is that they were manufactured by British firms; such as the pair that you have mentioned.

In the 1980s and 1990s, when I still owned full-line retail hobby shops, along with their own (albeit produced by other "foreign" manufacturers) line of pewter kits and accessories, Stevens International became my primary source for imported Liliput HO and Arnold Rapido and Ibertren N Scale models.

I knew I could count on you guys! I'm down here in South Carolina and have never been able to make it to any other show than the small one our club sponsors here in Charleston. It amazes me at the depth of knowledge you guys have and the work I've seen on here. No worries for the links Carter. I always appreciate any help someone is willing to offer. Reading through wiki and following some of the refs at the end showed these mills started to be used in the mid 70s, which is earlier than I thought. As for the instructions, I suspected they might not have existed. I do have some other kits that seem to be knockoffs or repackages, both pewter and resin. I'm gonna try and call in the morning just to see what I can find out.

Well, I tried the phone to no avail. Just went to the answering machine. So I'll give it another try on Wednesday and maybe try to go through the ebay store.
