Walthers Two-Stall 130' Brick Diesel House "Update"

The prototype I'm after is single-ended and bears a passing resemblance to the model, so I have no quarrel with this feature. I would likely double the kit to four doors wide and not use the little office, since the office and machine shop (for my example) is in the main structure. But we'll see, I'm years away from that part of the layout.

I didn't even notice that it was single ended though that's too bad, but not exactly a deal breaker for me as my engine facility is going to be on a short peninsula for the time being.

Walthers should have thrown in an extra wall for the rear that had engine doors in it .... they've done alternate walls for other kits. do ANY N scalers work at Walthers?

Here's a great idea: Walthers should introduce structure kits first only  in N scale. Then they can take note of the feedback from N scalers about good/bad things about it. They take that feedback, use it to tweak the HO design and make it better, produce the improved version in HO and everybody wins! N scalers get more buildings and Walthers caters to its HO customers! Win-win!

Would need to see the model to be sure, but the photos looked like kitbashing door openings in the rear wall would be easy to cut.

They want us all to buy two kits if we want them double ended.  One way to double sales.........and you can use the other walls for flats, kitbashing, etc. on the other side of the layout, so its not obvious its the same building.

I know this is a really old thread, but still seems like the best place for this question.

What's the track spacing on this kit?   Neither the instructions nor the footprint diagrams show that.
And, does it have pits in the floor (someone asked, but I didn't notice an answer) (looking at instructions, it appears it does not).

With some kitbashing, this might work as standing for a compressed Ft. Wayne NKP steam & diesel house, until I get far enough along to build something that is closer.

IF you will be able to see only one side of the structure where it will be placed, make the far side out of sheet styrene, and make a mold of the end with the door opening and cast it in resin. the windows on the far side can be made with clear plastic and black magic marker for the mullions. I did this with the car shops kit when I planned on using it for an engine house. The Roof & floor can also be scratched with styrene. IIRC, the Milwaukee Road Tacoma engine house this is modeled after was 11 sections long, Walthers shortened it to 8. If anyone is interested, I have an extra kit to part with.

Can you look at your kit and tell me what the track spacing is please?

track centers are 5cm, or just under 2 inches. In looking at the base, might not be that easy to extend it as there is a trough for the rail without ties to fit in which ends ~1/4-1/2" before the far end. If one wanted to extend the length, it might be easier to cut the base in half, and splice in styrene in the middle with layers to mimic the trough where it would not be seen. doable, but not simple cut and paste construction. I can take a picture if it would help.
I wanted the building to be long enough for 3 SD40-2s to fit on each track, as that will probably be my longest consit.
