norfolk & western 4-8-0 blue prints needed.

Im building a N&W 4-8-0 for a friend of mine. Im in dire need of blueprints of this locomotive so i can correctly get the  boiler dimensions correct. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Adam, I swear I remember an article with plans on these some years back, likely in MR.
These guys were pretty tiny, 56" drivers and a small boiler. Interestingly, the middle two drivers appear to be blind, like the Athearn 2-8-0's. I also wonder whether the Bachmann 4-6-0 boiler (and possibly mech) would be a place to start? On the other hand, the tender should be relatively easy!

Thank you max and otto! I've found those drawings, unfortunately I can't read the dang measurements!  I have a 4-6-0 boiler in hand and it's close,  but I'd like to check the measurements. I have a tomix type 9600 chassis I think will work. I'll be doing the larger tender variant with 3 axle trucks.
I'm thinking the rear boiler section isn't quite right though.

Size to N scale and print it out. Measure the print out.

I see your dilemma, and although this is a scale drawing, it's hard to tell where the actual bottom of the boiler is on that drawing, so it would not be easy to scale off it.

But here are all the boiler dimensions in a table.  I cannot read it.  You will have to pay the money and order
a copy of the actual drawing.  But it's only $4 for an electronic diagram emailed to you.

The NWHS has a huge wealth of construction drawings for that engine (and all the others).  They also have a big selection of
prototype photos (those are $14 each, however).

The bottom outline of the boiler is right under the running board/walkway. It is drawn with no lagging on it so adjust a hair bigger. See the joint at the smokebox as an example.

Can't the sectional views  be used? That's easier than trying to measure from the side view. It's pretty clear where the bottom is.

I combined both methods.  The sectional view does show where the bottom is, but it doesn't include all the steps in the boiler, just the two big ones, and the indicated measured distances are very short (the longest being 29-3/4"), which reduces how much accuracy you can get.  The elevation shot has a nice vertical measurement of 83" near the nose.

Scaling from both and comparing them, I got close agreement, so this is what I get:


And as Chris pointed out, these drawings don't include the lagging/boiler jacket over the outside.  I usually add 4" to all the diameters to allow for a 2" thick jacket.

Or... you could call the Strasburg Railroad in Strasburg, PA, and see if some kind soul there has a drawing or measurements of the 4-8-0 they run there, which I believe is this same engine.

You welcome.  I think that drawing is an M1.  I have no idea if that's the one you are trying to build, so you might want
to double check that.  I don't know if the boilers were all the same.  I don't know squat about the N&W.
