How the #$@! do you find anything on the MTL website?

The search engine on MTL site leaves a lot to be desired. This is the second time I have tried to find a very common part and I'll be damned if I can find it. You used to be able to select categories. One thing I  am looking for is the underframes, floors, frames, or whatever they are called for 40' boxcars. Several searches for other items come up with different results with the same root word.

They used to have parts catalogs. I have an old one, but for all I know the part numbers have changed.

I agree with the OP, and sent Micro Trains an email about it a week or 2 ago.  I recommended the Intermountain website, as an example of good basic hierarchical organization.  The IMR site shows what they make, what they used to make, what they propose to make in the future, and all in a compact format.  Whoever did the MT website got carried away with the fancy graphics, and forgot the fundamentals.

I did email them previously and then again on this search. No reply on the first. My goal was more to find out how to find what I am looking for and to vent a little  I thought maybe others may have had better luck.

It boggles the mind that an etailer would make it difficult to find their products. That and those that feel the need to change their websites constantly. Hats off to BLW who keeps things consistent. I can operate Pete's site with my eyes closed.

I emailed about trying to get some 50' boxcar  underframes ( the metal floor and all) and the reply I got said they didn't sell the metal floors, only the plastic detail piece.

This was about a year ago, so things may have changed.

They used to sell packages of underframes when they were all metal, but must have stopped when they retooled and started making the plastic detail piece that snaps into the metal floor.

It has been my experience that finding most things on their website involves a great deal of luck.

On another site (the old A co. site) there's a thread from 2006 that has a monkey looking for the same thing...and while another member was able to help, apparently MT didn't have them then either. So, its been awhile since they were available...

I have had much better luck, especially with parts they don't normally sell or list (like the metal bottoms to freight cars), by calling them.   I had scored a big bag of 1015/1016 coupler parts at a train show for a cheap price, but all the short-length
boxes were missing.  I called them up and asked if I could just buy a bulk of 50 of those, and they gave me a price and sent them.  You couldn't order those parts through the website and they are not in any catalog.  They may accomodate you if you ask.

Try that for your metal car underframes.
