Among other things, ran the ballast train on the big layout and then put some cars on the shelf layout for a test run...

I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this. Do you have a build thread?

Craig

No, I hadn't thought of that.   Probably should.

And, as with every other Facebook page I've visited recently, it has a big LOGIN popup in the middle of the page.  There are still a few of us who have no desire to give our personal information to Facebook.

That might get a little annoying for businesses using FB as their main website.

I don't know how or what, but it can be changed so you don't need to login.

Generally if you change the URL from https:// to http:// then non-Facebook users can see the page if public access is allowed by the page owner.  So in this case try:

New FB page for layout: http://www.facebook.com/columbiariversub/

Nope.  It defaults to "https:".  Even if I then change the URL in the address bar to "http:" manually, it still opens the "https:" page, and asks for a login.

Facebook is a business, and they don't make money from nonmembers.  So, they're apparently doing everything they can to discourage them, in hopes they'll join.  Can't blame them, that's capitalism, and it is their site, but for those using it to connect to the public it could lose a few potential customers.

I mean it may be something the page owner has to do to let everyone see it. What that is, I don't know.

I logged out of Facebook and was able to access the page and pictures without having to login. I tried on the laptop, too, and was able to see it without logging in.

Facebook makes no money from members... Joining is FREE. Posting is FREE. Clicking things is FREE. It only costs if you buy an ad

If my 82 year old grandmother can do it, so can you...   :D

Facebook stores lots of cookies on your computer and most likely knows that you are a member without you logging in.

Choice not to join FB is not about it being too difficult to use or having to pay membership fee (there is none).  It is about the FB culture and about FB business model.  They use very invasive methods to track your activities (both on and outside of FB).  Some people do not like that. At least that is how I see it.    I know that lots of other sites also track your information, but we all have a choice of which ones we allow in out lives.

I believe that there is a way for the owner of the FB page to make it open to the outside world, so if that person chooses FB to feature their layout blog on they should consider making it viewable by all.

Facebook does make money off it's users by selling your data.

Yes, but mostly from tracking what you do off of Facebook. The site isn't as bad as all the sites that have a Facebook button. And that is what Ghostery is for.
