The regularly scheduled transcontinental sleeper service ended about 10 years prior to that photo, but there was chartered service that could use any available cars.  PRR cars could be seen almost anywhere in the country.

Yup

You could still buy a fully loaded PRR 6 bedroom lounge with the kitchen still stocked with China and the beds still made up in '72 for $10k. 

Lots of people were buying post PC era into early Amtrak
