Beautiful sunny day out at Bean Mountain.
Just a few small areas left to cover with ground foam, then trees, the river, ballast and then we're done!

The scratchbuilt West Hickory depot project continues on.   This is one of those projects that demanded a lot of front-end painting before assembly; paint the walls and trim before glueing everything up, paint the windows before insertion, etc.   So it looks a lot more finished than what it is - still a lot of detail to do.

It looks 'high' because it has to be set down in a foundation so that railhead height is about even with the front door bottom - 6" on the T-trak module.

I ended up settling on Pollyscale "TH&B Cream" and Testors "Military Brown" when I compared them to other PRR depots on the same line that long outlived this one and some color shots survive. The Oil Creek and Titusville freight depot at Titusville (now their headquarters) is a PRR building of the same era - only 14 miles away.  http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2G3albEzma4/TL-pmQDnakI/AAAAAAAACt0/yVsgG2UQf4w/s1600/Titusville+Station.jpg   While I really like that 'three color' scheme with some red, I can't find any evidence it was used up here.

Just put the tarpaper on a few minutes ago, lots of touch-up do do there.

The windows and doors are Tichy.  The only trick I did here was to cut the freight side doors open and put a high floor in there - this will be right on the front edge of the T-trak, be the center of attention, and I'll likely have detail on the inside where it is visible.

I consider myself a card-carrying ATSF modeler and a logging modeler, so doing something PRR is way out of my skillset, but it's kind of fun.   At least it explains why I've built an L-1, two PRR cabooses, have a Bachmann doodlebug (one ran on this line) - because 'someday' I was going to model the HVRR/PRR interchange at West Hickory.

I bought a value pack of the SuperTrees today, and got them all seperated out.  I think I have about 50-60 4-9" armatures in the long box, and I'm not sure how many in the flat less than 4".

Will use these as fronts and some variety with the hundreds of sedum trees I will have.  That I haven't worked on in months

That's a good plan on mixing in other types of trees for frontal trees... Luv Super Trees but the "trunk" thickness (or lack thereof) leaves a lot to be desired.  For trees 2nd level in & beyond they're great, but for those where you're going to see their trunks... I use them sparingly.  For 1st level trees consider mixing in Woodland Scenics armatures covered with polyfiber.

Yesterday I got all the lighting wired for NS 1633. It just needs a little detail painting, couplers, and a light weathering to be complete. (hopefully the embedded video works properly)

Here's an update since last night...  A nice rainy day kept us all at the craft table, so I got this moved right along...

The pilot kit has a couple of kinks to work out, but overall it's a great build with some really nice details.

I guess I better get to work on a display diorama!

Mark W:  I don't know where Bean Mt is supposed to be, but the colors look like much of the inland Northwest.  It's not all flat lava flows, where there were already hills the basalt piled up and didn't form the neat columns.  Your scenery looks much like those Columbia Plateau border areas during the spring and fall, or in the Cascades where they get more rain.

Very nice! I, and a few others use Pollyscale Aged Concrete and Roof Brown.

I asked an ex-PRR/PC/CR engineer (from 1955-1997) what the official colors were the PRR used (the tan/brown combo) on their various buildings and he said that while there may have been official colors at one time, the paint crews pretty mixed whatever they could that looked close in shade... With the obvious result being those shades could very a great deal from building to building.

Op Session 6 is in the books!

You know it was successful when your wife asks: what did you guys find so funny up there (in the loft) for 4 hours? Having a fun crew makes all the switch and derailment issues worthwhile.

The demerit list will be completed when I find the yard bum that knocked the coaling tower off its foundations and derailed all 4 of the steam engines parked under it.

Where did you say you left that train?

Who snuck that Penn Central geep onto a 1950s PRSL layout?

Hi Rick,

Where did you get those oil storage tanks by the Walthers refinery? I need a couple.

Thanks for any info.

Hmm... I need some
banana storage units...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Kiz,
They look like a couple of the old Bachmann built ups with different paint. But I could be mistaken.
