I decided to try to hide the ugly black hole in the wall at Lugo (entrance to Barstow staging). There's no trees, tunnels, or overpasses on the prototype to hide the hole, so I went with this:

More progress at Septimus following recent completion of trackwork, including installation of servo switch machines (not yet powered) with throw wire engaged in throw bar, excess wire cut off, installation and connection of frog juicers for turnouts, and connection of all track and juicer feeders to the bus wires:










Following all this work, I turned on the power and there were no shorts.  A quick test run seems to indicate that all is well.

Preparation of an auxiliary bus to power the servo drivers is underway, and design and procurement of control panels for the turnouts is in progress.  I am looking forward to reaching over to the control panels and flipping a toggle or two to throw my first turnouts.

The most recent issue of The Warbonnet has inspired me to 'get crackin'' on the freight F fleet details...
This one is a 'spare' cab unit (not part of the 4 LABC sets).
One of the things I took away from the article was the 'freight' pilot and ATSF-applied footboards on all these units (the third batch with the 48" DB fans-280L-Cs seemed to built with the 'passenger pilot' and integral step but these also had the larger fuel tank and FARR vertical slit grills, as well as a few other detail changes)

Per suggestion for Wenatchee on 3rd generation of my 2x4 layout. Sanded and repainted sky board or backdrop blue. Going to look at either
photo cut outs of fruit packing warehouses with stacks of crates or one dimensional flats.
