Just a further thought on the disconnecting harness, I have found that I can swap an expensive sound/DCC equipped tender between several locomotives. While not an earthshaking revelation, it does let me have use of several more as DCC/sound units, almost like a  separate sound car.
Modeling Southern and N&W in the southeast.

Hmm I never thought of that . I wonder if the K4 tender would work with the DCC on board 2-8-0 ?
